Key Fob Re-Programming
I have a spare Key-Fob that starts the car, but wont operate the alarm or remote locking...
The batteries are new, and the little light flashes when a button is pressed.
Any one know where the link is for the re-programme sequence to get the car to educate the remote ??
Regards
Grant B

The Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter(s) can be programmed by thecustomer without special tools.
PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE
Transmitter programming by the customer is done by performing the followingsteps:
1. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
2. Press either the lock or unlock button momentarily twice.
Turn the key in the ignitionswitch to the ON/RUN position within 30 seconds.
Hope this is useful and saves you $100.
Press and hold both buttons on the keyremote until the light (red lens at top of key fob) blinks twice. Now when youpress the open button both doors and trunk will open with one push instead oftwo!
Repeat procedure to go back to twopresses to open passenger door and trunk (why??)

I wondered also....
If I was able to get another vehicle's key/scrapped vehicle.....
Can I re-program the fob to suit MY car so it remotely unlocks ?

I Gents,
I managed to reprogram my spare key that stopped working with the two presses then turn on the ignition sorta' sequence...1. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
2. Press either the lock or unlock button momentarily twice.
Turn the key in the ignitionswitch to the ON/RUN position within 30 seconds.
The above worked..
I then bought two key fobs off e-bay and tried the same, but couldn't get either of them to work or start the car...
Chrysler assure me there is a sequence to do this for a 2 button fob, but I can only find the sequence for fobs with a panic button. and they want to charge £115 for the 5 minute job
Mine is a TWO button fob only... Lock and UNlock..
Any body got any more info ? Some one has to know what the programming sequence is surely ?
Regards to all.

I need to purchase another remote, any suggestions other than a dealer at dealer costs? Also, my 2007 CF is 84% Mercedes, the key fob has a Mercedes logo on the back, do they ALL have the Mercedes logo? If not, where do you suggest I purchase an OEM remote?? Thanks much!
My own Crossfire key-fobs all have the Chrysler logo on them,
I managed to get a few spare fobs off e-bay for about £12 each.
Look up "Mercedes key-fobs" on e-bay, mine needed 2 button units, and you will find them a plenty,
but it seems that the main dealer needs to program them...
I cannot find a procedure that will program them, but I'm quite sure they can be......
and they are £200 cheaper than a dealer blank unit.
For an additional £5 you can get a NEW empty fob with a key blank, so you just need to swap the donor electronic guts and the original key blade into the new fob and get it programmed.

After much research about key fobs, (thanks Grant B for your response) I visited one local Chrysler dealership to purchase the extended warranty (another pursuit). The prior quote for a new cut key, the fob/remote and programing came to $320, so that was out. The key and remote/fob itself was quoted at $170(no programming). When I spoke to the parts manager (this s a different dealer than the dealer who provided the $320 quote), he said the key cut and fob/remote was $160 that INCLUDED the programming. Whoa! What a deal. He said the key is cut AND programmed by the vin number. What do you know, no need for the $150 charge for programing. It is amazing the range of quotes (and varying information) for costs and info from dealer to dealer. I did review eBay and Amazon for key fob/remotes, Mercedes and Chrysler, could not locate Mercedez SLK matching the OEM remote for the Crossfire (only a black one was found). There were many 3 button Mercedes MLK series remotes (lock/unlock/panic) but not the rectangular OEM/grey fob/remote. I found one supplier with no international shipping rates (black and looks close to OEM) but the years 1998-2004 did not include my 2007 model year (but I think they are the same fob/remote, never heard back so the dealer seemed the way to go. My Crossfire has the Mercedes logo everywhere including the back of the remote. The parts guy called another dealer who had a remote ordered and in stock for another customer, he said the logo on the remote was Chrysler. Hope this helps for anyone looking to replace a key/fob/remote for their Crossfire.

The new key will start the car as the chip inside has been matched to the cars VIN number with a code that was assigned to the car at the factory and recorded when the car was new.
However the mating of the key to lock/unlock the car has to be done on the car, this is the feature that can be lost when changing batteries so it is obvious that a new fob would require this to be done. It is this last programing that the dealers may/will probably charge for, although it can be done by you in seconds.
On the radio the other day I heard that a dog had swallowed the small chip when the owner dropped his fob and it sprang apart, to start the car the owner sat his dog on the car seat while he cranked the car and drove it until nature delivered the chip on his lawn. Yuck.
Hey Onehundred80, thanks for your reply. I did reprogram a second remote/fob (not OEM) when I changed the batteries. That remote is "fussy" not sure it was a battery problem after all. The process was successful, however, the panic button does not function and there is a trunk release button that is also not functional. When I get the call to p/u the new key/fob/remote from the dealer, of course I will test it there. If it does not work, the "programming" if any that is needed, will be on the dealer. At least I did not have to pay the $320 quoted from another dealer. I did find one resource (through internet search) for $160 that says they provide the same service, programming complete with the VIN number. So maybe this is accurate info???? I felt more comfortable dealing with a local dealer so that if anything does not function, I have somewhere to return to rather than complaining over the phone/internet. Two other "OEM" remote/fob providers had no Crossfire remotes. Thanks again for your response. BTW, do you know anything about the GForce chips?? Are they worth installing?? Better mileage AND greater HP?? Thanks for any other info-much appreciated.
I have a weird problem with my key fob... It works, but instead of unlocking just the drivers door on the first push it unlocks the passenger side and trunk! I have to push it a second time to get the drivers side open... Anyone heard of this and know how to fix it?!
Stopped at the dealer today, but their "Crossfire expert" was not in and they were stumped!
Have to mention that I've only had the car for a little over a month and did replace the batteries, but seems like it's always done this... I thought it was normal.
Thanks for any suggestions

Rather than a dealer to address your alarm; what sounds like reverse operation of the disarming procedure (should be driver door first, then passenger door/trunk, you may want to try a vendor that specializes in car alarms. You may pay top dollar for the dealer to address the alarm especially if you are at a Mercedes dealer vs Chrysler dealer but no dealer is "cheap". I'm guessing it's an electronic bug that should be "easily fixed" by a knowledgable and fair vendor. Good luck. Also, there are many very well versed owners on the forum that may have some suggestions. The answer could be as easily as running through a re program of your key fob. Those instructions are on the forum. You have to poke around to find the instructions. Print them out and have them in your hand when you run through the procedure. (when I purchased a new remote, the dealer programmed the new key fob but I did do a reprogram when I changed batteries on a funky remote that came with my used Crossfire. That's why I purchased a new remote, the "aftermarket" was a "funky", had an extra button, was not original. Good luck.

In your case I'm guessing that the hoses that go to the air/security module in the trunk from the doors. are reversed.
You can see how it would be easy to put the wrong hose on the wrong nipple. If I recall correctly the nipple is removed easily, do not pull the hose from the nipple.

Grant - can you tell me where you found the sequence for the fob with the panic button?
thx-jp
I'm not sure of the programing feature/sequence for key fobs but I was told by another cf owner recently that Chrysler is now charging close to $700 for an OEM key fob because of the time that has transpired since the Chrysler was introduced/produced. Something about time requirements for car manufacture to provide OEM parts. Don't take my word for it, please research. I have no idea where or whom one would take the metal key blank to have a duplicate produced. I have a genuine Chrysler 2 button fob and key if anyone is interested, will sell for $100. The existing metal key may be worthless as it was for my cf. The fob can be taken apart and a new metal key inserted. The fob is OEM, not an aftermarket. See pic attached. The Chrysler key ring is included. If interested, please send me a PM. Good luck.
The OEM keys will only work on the crossfire they came with. That is why new ones are so expensive and old ones are only good for case replacements for worn ones.
I don't doubt the issue. The "extra" key I have was ordered through Chrysler. Not sure if Chrysler would (now) take an existing key from another vehicle and have it programmed for a charge, not sure given all the hoopla of Chrysler turning us (and me) away from their service dept, except for oil/filter change. This is a new world servicing the cf.

Proofreading my original reply, I should have done it better. It was confusing, sorry! I do know better!

My experiment cost me about $125 as an education. If you're told a key with the same serial and RFID number can be reprogrammed by a locksmith or dealership don't believe it. I bought a "guaranteed" promise that cost me a 20% ($54) restocking / shipping fee. I believed the dealership representative that was sure any Mercedes Benz key fob with the correct part number and RFID (KR55) could be programmed to work with my car that cost me another $65. Not so and not true. ZERACER is correct so don't waste your time and money buying a "used" or new key fob from any other vehicle. Mercedes Benz has an absolute lock on the VIN specific data of your car and only they can release this information to whom ever they please.
