Porsche Boxster VS Crossfire
 

On all aspects of speed, how does the Crossfire compare with the Boxster? :arrow:

in 2002 a lady friend rented me (for my birthday) a 99 Porsche Boxter (manual shift) for a day (and overnight) and we cruised around and went out to eat and then cruised some more. This was all around the Dallas Fort worth area. It wasn't the "S" version so it really wasn't that fast. I was really disapointed at how lackluster the power seemed. It only had like 35k on the speedo so it wasn't worn out or anything. Anyway it was fun cruising in it and all. After eating we were going down 183 west (toward H.E.B. side of Dallas) and a guy on a sport bike came flying up and quckly latched beside me, and then nodded to race. I just smiled and shook my head. I would have been a joke to race him. When I finally convinced him I wasn't going to go for it, we waved and smiled and flew off. A bike like that with its very low mass can just rocket off without even trying.

Anyway the Boxter is a fun car but its been out since late 96 and really is due for an update. I must admit I like the new SLK-350 but for 47k (starting) I would rather have the Crossfire and save the almost 20k left over :) :)


The Boxter is the only modern car I can think of with a trunk in the front and back. The engine is behind the seats (mid engine) so there is still room back there for a rear trunk also. What bothered me is (during my day with the Boxter) I never figured out how to actually see the engine. Do you go underneath to access it? The rear trunk had a place to check oil and add water I think also but that was pretty much it.

Boxsters are actually pretty slow. It's all about the name "Porsche" which amazes everyone about anything that has the name on it.

My friend Jimmy got a 99 Boxster.. everyones like o0o0o0o0 he got a Porsche.

Too bad my Crossfire is probably better in every respect, and definately faster.

The Boxter S is considerably faster, 0-60 in 5.3 and the 1/4 mile in 13.9 seconds.

The standard Boxter (by the numbers) is pretty even with a chipped Crossfire in acceleration and the Boxter is a bit better at road holding.

I like Porsche's a lot, the Boxter included. There's a guy here at work with a fairly new Carerra 4 and it sounds and looks real nice. They're grossly overpriced compared to some competitors though.
