Default R.e.s.t.

I tried this feature out about a week ago when it was about 30F, and was amazed that it really works. I was in the store a little over 30 minutes, so it had shut off by time I got back, but the car was still nice and warm. It didn't take but a few seconds after I was on the road again an the heater about drove me out of the car. My God it works, nearly had to roll down the windows to keep from being roasted alive.

Thumbs up Re: R.e.s.t.

That's cool.... it's funny I'm still reading my OM, just this morning in fact and I quickly looked up in the index to find out what REST was. For those without a Crossfire (manual) it oddly enough stands for:
Residual Engine Heat Utilization.

It's wierd though, on the rest button there are two lights. When I hit it once it turns on recirculate. Is that the same as rest? The second light on the lower right, never lights up.
How do you get it to light up and what does it mean?

If the car is running, the button turns on recirculate, the upper light. If the car is turned off, the button turns on the REST, the lower light.

How do you get it to turn on if the car is off? Does the car need to be off but the key is still in position that everything is getting power?

No. It won't work if the key is turned to accessory. Turn off the engine, take the key out, and then push the button. The fan should start blowing. I'm not sure, but I don't think the fan switch even has to be on for the REST.

I just used mine when I went out for lunch. I just hit the button after taking the key out. The red light came on, the heat started blowing, and the car was warm when I got back in.

I turned it on when my husband was fueling up my car and it was turned off. It was warm outside and the fans went on to blow some fresh air, it seemed. So you can be in the car with no key and windows up, and it'll blow some air to make waiting for someone more comfy.

It's actually the Recirculate button and upon closer inspection it even says REST.

Question Re: R.e.s.t.

Ok, why is"Residual Engine Heat Utilization" abbreviated R.E.S.T. and not R.E.H.U.? Also, why is the mute button labeled TP? Do these stand for some German words or europeon meaning?

Maybe TP means To Pause (mute) in German.
Maybe REST means Residual Engine System Transfer in German.
Sometimes the terminology gets modified by the North American gurus.
One of those mysteries of life, I guess.

Are you sure it only blows heat off the engine? When we discovered it, it blew cool air, not warm.
HDDP, try that button down there in CA on a warm day, after you turn off the car and see what the air feels like.
I figured that there may be some (ethnic group) that locked their family in their car and couldn't get them out! Then all the people in the car had to do to survive until their(ethnic group)father could get help, was push the "rest" button to give them some fresh air!!! [gee, you can't even tell (ethnic group) jokes anymore!]
