Crossfire Gets Poopoo'ed By Car And Driver
Crossfire Gets Poopoo'ed By Car And Driver
Just got the new Car and Driver, ragtop muscle cars were the segment. Had to have 2 seats, a vert and be from 45-65k. The contestants were the 2005 SRT-6 Roadster,2005 Boxter S, 2005 Chevy Corvette Convert. , And the slk350. The SRT-6 Ran a 13.4@106,0-60 4.8. Pulled over .9g's and was one of the best stoppers. However CandD said the ride was so bad, and amongst other things , including the time confinemnts and the auto only, the Srt-6 placed last by a gap of a huge 36 pts. They say the car just feels dated and old. The SRT-6 posted the worst lap time 1:20.36 , even worse than the slk350's 1:18.90
They loved the slk350, they dubbed it the "best" handling mercedes benz ever. But it only placed 3rd. Still ran a 13.9 and held some impressive numbers. 2nd place went to the vette which ran the fastest lap time of 1:16.34. and ran a 1/4mi in 12.8@112. But 1st place went to the Boxter S. Running a 1:17.87 lap time pulling the most G's, and being the best braker and all around car. I have to say I agree with them. Despite having over 50hp less than the SRT-6 it beat it in the road course and only lost in the 1/4 by 2 tenths.
Just some useless info.

Did the Vette have the Z51 suspension / brake option? If not, it wasn't a fair comparison because this option is far superior on the track and cost is not significantly more.

don't forget car & driver is a media ***** as well as road & track. I think in their(or autoweeks) last review of two seaters they put the boxster last because they said the design and looks were tired. the reason they downgraded the srt-6 if you bothered to read the article was because the ride was so harsh. If you have read what almost all reviews of the srt-6 said they say the same thing. The ride is brutal. DC did that on purpose so it would track like a race car. Whoopee Doo. That doesn't degrade our car which has a very nice ride. Don't forget if it doesn't go fast as $hit C&D doesn't like it. We still have the best car! I'm not out trying to be bullseye every day(LOL) I just wish it would warm up so I could get my xfire out.

Car & Driver is published by Hachette Filipacchi, a French company, do they like anything American (please correct me if I am wrong). Honestly, I really don't care what other people think, including these guys. I am happy with the Crossfire and enjoy driving it. Nothing else matters. Drive on..........

I agree with the last post its what you enjoy that matters, speed is not really much good when the speed limit is 70 or 75 mph, looks count just as much, and we are constantly amazed at where we are stopped and asked what the car is..!!
I watched the Barret Jackson speed thingy the other day.. and an Oldsmobile sold for, was it 100 times more than a Porsche ? I think it was 3 mill, amazing... all I can tell you is no matter what " Quality is remembered long after the pirce has been paid" and I really believe that a Crossfire has some inherant quality about it

Looks like the Elise wasn't in there .I like porsches just tired of their looks.I want to drive a C6 though. And you can change the SRT6 springs and shocks and have it all for a few hundred bucks . except a 6 spd. just hate the wing still too.
