I have been waiting for something like this for years. I bought a used bezel a while back to fab a double din but messed it up. It ended up in the trash! I will definitely purchase one when you are done.

After all the time I spent on mine, and all the frustration I went through. I thought that would be nice if a kit could exists.

It will not be an easy task, as it need a complete reverse engineering, Relocating the switches with a custom bezel.

But my goald would be to provide an almost plug and play bezel, which gonna replace the current one. Not a hack of yours, so you could be able to go back stock

Thats the main goal

A custom hack of your dash bezel usually cost anywhere between 1500 to 2500 in a car audio shop (and your bezel is modified so no way to go back)

My goal would be to manage to make it as cheap as possible, maybe for half that, maybe less.

I still think that the weak point of our beauties is the front bezel which looks really outdated compared to the rest

So please vote on the above Pool, or in facebook poll here:

If you have any other thoughts, like more interested in a kit for a Tablet instead of Double Din Standard let me know here

So, please vote even if you are not interested. To know if you want me to spend time on that
I'm very interested in the tablet!! Are u doing this still?

I know this thread is old but for others considering doing the same....You do not need to go through all of that. Get a single DIN head unit with a screen that slides out and pops up. It is the same size display as a double din.

Some of us decide to go over the wall rather than through the gate. 😁

I have one of those inside mine and honestly it's annoying to use the climate control. It's the easy way yes. Still annoying.

There is a button on those to lean it forward enough so the climate control can be reached.....easy. That's much easier than modding a dash plate.

Besides, is there even any room behind the dash plate to fit a double-din unit? I have never had it apart but I doubt it if the space available is like most cars.

I don't think there any popout type heads in marine silver, though. Only black that I've ever found. That's an issue for some (many?) of us.

Kenwood makes them in a nice matching silver, I had one, but not in a single din Nav. There is a thread on here sbout installing a Kenwood.
I added.a double din.

There is just enough room for the double din unit, if you want the ash tray unit to stay where it is the ash tray has to be chopped as it gets in the way. The D/Din has been put in the Crossfire by quite a few people.

Just do it.

180 did it.
I did it
and a whole lot of others have too

Time, fibreglass, filler, paint and time

most importantly you fabricated it and get to tell everyone
That’s pretty cool

all for $200-300

if you’re following threads, members are absolutely chocking over the $700 key fob. I can just imagine the seizures that will occur at the thought of shelling out $1200.00 for a double din faceplate.

Yikes

Just a little FYI: I started modeling a 3D printable model but posted this in a different thread forum, figured this would give you guys a new boost that our CF's are not retiring yet! If anyone would like a peak at what I've done just checkout the following forum link...

Enjoy!

Yikes

I have done one DD with the buttons in the centre console.

Now I have started on a one piece faceplate and relocating the passenger air bag light and lighter to the shifter bezel.
The one piece bezel will attach using the two screws above the head unit and the lower two screws that held the ash tray module.
Here the bezel is shown taped together after rough fitting it to the console.
The gap between the shifter bezel and the DD bezel will be more or less straight.
I will paint both when this one is finished.

As UrbanE says - just do it.
