1st Annual Fall 2007 "Tail of the Dragon" meet - Nov. 9. 10, 11
There is a gas station at the entrance to Fontana Village. If you are LEAVING the village, turn right at the stop sign/gas station and head up that road to the top of the dam. If you go straight, across the stone bridge, turn right just at the end of the bridge and you will drive to the bottom of the dam. A big open field with great views. There is really only one place to have lunch, and thats at the Village. All the other places are just small stands. Hope this helps. I plan to bring my bride with me to Gatlinburg, and I suspect its about a 1-2 hour drive from there. Does 10 am at the top of the dam meet with anyone's approval? There is plenty of parking. Then we could drive around the loop back and forth, have a nice hot coffee,(whoa there, what did I say), I meant a little brew, as in cold. Just tone in and give your thoughts.

Okay guys, try as I might, I am not able to get off work to make this trip...so scratch me for this year.
The disappointment runs deep as I was looking forward to seeing old friends, and meeting a bunch of new ones. I'll look forward to the pics.

oh and as long as they have bourbon and guinness or some sort of ale i'm golden... and since the bar doesn't serve women i will have to drink more... well al ot more until you guys start looking good anyways rofl.
So this is still going down on Sunday too isn't it? I won't be able to make it on Saturday due to a tailgate at the Tennessee football game that I host every home game. The obligation was great for a while but is killing my liver. haha.
Anyone staying for Sunday? Maybe hit the bars Saturday night? I know a great authentic irish pub in Concord that is ran by a couple of irishmen, always packed and the best served Guinness and Boddingtons in town.
...then we always have the cheap bars w/ 1.50 pints of Natty Light....if you're looking to get tanked. haha.

In case no one has seen it, the Dragon isn't always safe, so you have to be careful!

My wife and I will be there Friday afternoon, leaving Sunday morning. I've only had my 04 for about a month, looking forward to meeting other owners.
One item that can be very useful for a group run through the Gap is an FRS radio. These are the small Motorola 2 way radios that are usually sold in pairs. They can be very helpful to let the group know of any road problems or mechanical emergencies. We can agree on a frequency before the run and easily stay in touch.
Look forward to seeing everyone soon.

the bar at Fontana Village does NOT serve women - you have to bring your own.
Bring your own Women ?
everyone still meeting at the Dam on Saturday / Sunday.

Yea, that damn bar at the village, what can I say. So this year, I'm bringing my own woman. To hell with them. I still haven't heard anything else, so is 10 am at the dam ok with everyone on saturday. I'll be leaving on sunday am, but not sure the time. The only place I've found that cell phones work in the whole area is the dam. No cell coverage at the village. It might have changed since last year. See you there.
I plan to arrive Friday afternoon and will be taking a run through the Dragon then, hopefully there will be less traffic Friday afternoon and less law enforcement. Not to be stupid about it, but I am hoping for a more open road Friday afternoon.
Anyone interested in meeting at the dam Friday at 3:00PM or so for a quick out and back before it starts getting dark?

You're right rje.uc. lots less traffic on friday than saturday. Plus when you are by yourself or two, it sure beats a long line of cars behind or ahead of you, then it goes REALLY slow. Anyway, it should be a fun weekend for all. I'll be in Gatlinburg thursday, and friday; maybe shipping wife off to shop and tooling over to the gap. I plan to leave sat. am for a ride over the mountains to Cherokee and then to the gap. I'll be there at 10:00. I have'nt make plans for staying anywhere yet for saturday night, but there will be plenty of places.
