Alarm

I have a question, what else is new!
When I set my alarm, my lights blink three time however there is no sound. I have never heard any sound, even if I forget the alarm is set and try to open the door. Is this normal? How do you know if the alarm is doing it's thing?

Re: Alarm

It is my understanding that when the alarm is active, a light on the console blinks. The blinking light is where the tow away alarm switch is.

Re: Alarm

The light blinks, I was just wondering if it is audible or if it just shuts everything down.

Re: Alarm

When the alarm goes off I think that the ignition cuts off, the parking and fog lights flash, and the horn beeps. Should be the same effect as pressing the Panic button on the remote control.

Re: Alarm

There is no sound when setting the alarm only 3 blinks of the lights. If you want to test the alarm put your window down close the door and set the alarm, wait 60 seconds then reach inside and open the door with handle from the inside. your alarm should go off or just push the alarm button on the fob. Either way your alarm should sound.

Re: Alarm

DUH !!!, thanks to all. I will just try my panic button and if that works, the audible should be fine. My only other question would be if the sensitivity can be adjusted. Being a roadster, I want it to be sensitive to anyone reaching inside, if possible.
Thanks.

Re: Alarm

I have never tested mine for movement sensitivity but I have worked on mine before without the alarm set and just by moving the car while working on it the lights flashed 3 times as if setting the alarm, I guess if the alarm was set it would have gone off. I don't think you can adjust the sensitivity.

Thanks. I have never been able to set off my alarm and wanted to know how well it worked.

It doesn't appear to be motion sensitive... seems to only go off is someone damages/breaks into the vehicle... which sucks.

Is the alarm sound the same as the panic button alarm sound?

If so, how do you get the alarm sound louder? A lot louder...

Re: Alarm

I agree with EM.
The alarm should be much louder.
Having the Roadster, I was concerned that if someone slashed the top, how far would they get.
Sitting inside the car with doors closed I set the alarm.
If you pop the hood, the alarm goes off.
If you open a door the alarm goes off.
Need to still experiment putting key in ignition and also jacking vehicle.

Re: Alarm

I can tell you from personal experience that jacking the car up will set off the alarm. This year when I put the car in storage I used four jacks to take some of the weight off of the suspension and forgot to turn off the alarm. It went off without even raising the body 1/2".

Re: Alarm

There are no interior motion sensors on our cars, so if someone reaches in the car they can take whatever you have left in plain sight. If you open the door, hood and trunk the siren will go off. We do have a tow alarm, if the car is lifted or pushed reasonably hard the siren will go off.

Re: Alarm

The alarm should go off if the car is raised that's why there's a switch inside to turn off the alarm for towing.

FYI: Based on my recollection of reading the owners manual for the roadster, when you lock the car, the console and the gas cap locks. So you can put your valued possessions in either and they should be safer.

Re: Alarm

Only had my car a month or so now, and the alarm has gone off by itself about 7 times now, even when it is sitting in a locked garage. I thought it must have been the motion sensors, but since it does not have any, it cant be. I don't really want to say anything to the dealer at the moment, as with it being an intermittent fault, they will probably have to take the car off me for weeks to diagnose it.

Re: Alarm

Movement can set off the alarm. I had the car sitting in the driveway one day when it was REALLY windy. It set off the alarm...
