Scraped up the back bumper

I back up into a stop sign on this little side street and it messed up the back bumper...I was sick all day about it. I want to take it to a shop on monday to have it fixed I wonder how much it will cost to repair it? Should I take it to the dealer or just some body shop any help would be great.

I would take it to an independent quality shop, and make sure they guarantee their work as long gas you own the car.

Professional painting with quality, perfectly matching paint over the entire rear bumper should cost about $360. You don't say whether the surface was also damaged.

This is what you pay comprehensive for on your insurance. Someone hit my back bumper less than a week after I bought it. I called in the claim. My deductible is $200. Total bill was near $1,000.

They had to replace the entire rubberized bumper cover, so that's why I expect it was that much. If you are just repairing scratches, it's going to be MUCH less. Probably lower than your deductible.

As stated get a professional estimate or three and then you will know if it's worth making a claim for.

Cheers!

Thanks for all the info. I think the whole bumper cover has to be replaced there is a small crease in it... I'll let you know how it turns out. :p

Any damage that is done to the bumper means it has to be replaced entirely. I got an estimate of $800 to fix a small dent that someone had done to my car.

I am going to take it to the MB dealer this week the chrysler dealer where i bought the car does not have a body shop. Right now the car is in my garage with a cover over it i can't even look at it.

A moron in Detroit tried following me through a stop sign, except I stopped and he didn't. He hit me at less than 5 mph. Just enough to scratch the rear bumper in a couple places. Fortunately no damage to the underlying foam.

I took it to both a quality repair shop (they did work for me on another car) and the dealer. Both were ~$500. Bumper had to be removed, sanded, repainted, and cleared. They thought they might have to put some filler on the damage but I told them no bondo and only enough filler to remove the scratches.

It's been 6 months and you cannot tell where the damage was.
