I got the strangest email after contacting a person listing a roadster for sale out of Washington DC.
They said they won it, and didn't list a price. I simply inquired what $ and got the following, which I identified as spam and deleted:

I want this transaction to be smooth enough as I am caught in the middle of some very
important events and have very few time at my disposal. In excellent running and body
condition, no flaws on it or any other mechanical problems. It has a clear title and it
will be signed and notarized on your name as soon as the payment will be completed.
If you are interested the buy it now price is $5,200 including shipping costs anywhere in
the continental US. The shipping will be made by DHL Freight. The package will be crated
and insured. You will receive the package directly to your home address in 5-6 working
days. You will also receive 7 days inspection period. If you decide not to keep it after inspection you can return it on my expense.
For payment I want to use eBay's escrow service. There are no other costs regarding this transaction.
If you are interested please provide your full name and shipping address so I can make the
reservation at DHL. eBay will provide you all the details by email.

Sounds like spam. Next they'll be asking for your bank account number for a wire transfer.

 

$5,200 and they'll actually put it in a crate and ship it at no additional cost, then give you a 7 day "cooling off period" at which time you can, should you so choose, send it back at their expense for a full refund?

Here's what you do:

Step 1: Turn around
Step 2: Run away very quickly
Step 3: Do not look back

 

Tell them to send it COD.

 

Scam, fraud, etc. Stay away.

 

yep, I saw starting this thread as a "buyer beware" posting for members.

 

I like the C O D idea. Why not see if you can string them along enough to cause them grief. instead of them screwing a hard working person.

When I get these bogus E-Mails, I tell the seller that I really want to buy the item and my brother is stationed in the military not far from there (where ever the item is located) and that I'll send him over to look at the item with cash (car/bike/boat, whatever). Then it gets stupid because the seller will e-mail back that he's too busy or the item is locked in storage in some warehouse or he's on a business trip so can't access it...whatever!!...these guys are scumbags. It's too bad e-bay doesn't patrol and monitor this stuff better, they certainly have the money to do it.
