Talking New owner

Just purchased a 2006 roadster (manual), sold as new, with 200 miles. Love this vehicle, although sometimes its power scares me. Getting lots of stares and positive comments--so much so that I am hesitant to drive it with the top down---waaaaaaaaaaay tooooooooooo much attention.

Does anyone know why the crossfire vin number begins with a 1 (indicating it is American made) when all reports and the marking in the door indicate assembled in Germany? Not even the dealers have been able to answer this one.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new ride ! You'll find most any topic concerning the XFire right here. A word to the wise: get used to using the search function considering most issues with your car have several threads that apply. Some of the older "Geezers" will "Flame Ya" for not doin a "Search" before posting a question on topics discussed several times over !

Again welcome to your "Perma-Grin Support Group" ! It is an eye catchin lil machine, ain't it ?

As to the vin question ??? No clue ! Perhaps some of our more learned members have an answer.

Welcome to the forum! Get used to the stares. People will stop you and ask what it is too.

Welcome to a great "club". When the new ride stops scaring you with it's power, test drive an SRT6. It starts all over again.

I'm a fairly new owner myself of a 05 and I kind of know what you mean. Like today getting on the highway coming down the entrance I look back see nothing coming, ahead nothing for quite a stretch, so I get on it a little and notice I am catching up quickly to the vehicles ahead as I shift from 4th to 5th, and pretty much at the same time glance down at my speed and I'm going 100.... sheeze I think to my self I only just put it into 5th?... Enjoy Your New Ride! And yes, go topless

Welcome to the forum. A lot of great information has been and is shared by this group. You'll begin to ignore the stares after a while or not, but at least its not for having an ugly car.

Talking Re: New owner

Goldwing,
I test drove 2005 srt6, when i first started looking at the car (choice between saturn sky and crossfire). the srt6-i felt the power pulling out of the dealers lot.

took me about 4 months after that, to decide on the crossfire, given it was not made in u.s. and it is important to support workers here in the states. the only other u.s. made two seater vehic was the saturn sky, beautiful and sleek, but the husband would have to coil and uncoil to get in and out of the car, and i did not feel comfortable driving the sky. plus i travel quite a bit in my job, though mostly by air, on short trips i would drive and there is ablsolutly no room for luggage.

my UAW buddys claim that in spite of what i read about the assembly of the car in germany, if the vin # starts with a "1" the the final assembly was here in the u.s. (they have no idea where). i do know that the car comes into the country at the port of baltimore, md. CrossfireLTD mentioned that the 1 indicates it was built for the u.s. market; however i noticed that mercedes benz vehic sold in the u.s. do not start with a "1" but rather a "W" and these MB were built for the u.s. market. So I continue to look for the answer, in the meantime i am ENJOYING the H!!! out of this car.
