Default how fast can the roadster take an exit off the freeway?

i know the car is pretty unpredictable at high speed conering but whats the fastest anyone has gone into a corner? exit? or anything with a turn. i remember in my 1997 eclipse gs (dropped to the floor and it was even lower then crossfire) i could take exits off the freeway at 90mph and i mean that. no special springs just cut the stock springs with plasma cutter. but whats the "official" or "unofficial" speed of the crossfire before it breaks traction. and this could mean with traction control on or off. i already put it to the test with traction control off and it was not pretty. but any answers or comments would be appreciated and again i like my crossfire alot but my 1997 eclipse could take exits and cornering far beyond the crossfire or even any ferrari or lamborghini or any car for that matter. but i cant trust my crossfire its almost like it has a mind of its own with the traction control on and its dumb as rocks with it off so what do we do?

Well, it's a hard question to answer since so many exits are different. My advice...if you take one too fast and crash then you'll know you should have been going at least 1 mph slower. And since you're getting OFF the freeway where you'd have to slow down anyway, what's the point of trying to go 90 if you're only going to have to brake in a few seconds.

Mine hugs like there is glue on the tires. Of course, I have not tried a 90MPH exit.

He will learn the hard way when he's going 90 and comes up on a bunch of cars that are all stopped waiting to merge into the traffic.

According to Road & Track Magzine "Road Test Summary"

2005 Eclipse GT did the Slalom at 64.1 mph and Skidpad rating of 0.83.
2004 Crossfire ..did the Slalom at 69.6 mph and Skidpad rating of 0.89.

These of course are "stock" cars with no modifications.
Lowering your car will naturally give you a lower center of gravity, which should help you some, but the biggest thing that's responsible for keeping a car with a stiff suspension on the road is it's tires. Their rubber composition, tread design/depth, and width.
Since there was no way you could even come close to putting as wide of a tire on your front wheel drive Eclipse as the Crossfire comes from the factory with, I think it would be very hard for your old "modified" Eclipse to hang with a Crossfire.
On the other hand, at the Dragon last Fall, I had a very good driver (familar with the road) in a new Honda SI all over my rear end. So anything is possible.
But I have never noticed my Crossfire doing "anything" unpredictable when it comes to cornering. So maybe the "coupes" are just more "planted" at higher speeds.

Every exit is different as is every car. It might be that your driving the Xfire in a way that it dosent like. I know my roadster is much diffent than my RX-7 and the MR2 we had. each one handled great and I could carry some great speed in turns but each one needed a little bit diffrent style. My guess is that ouare used to the lazy turn in and slower steering input of the eclipse compared to the quicker xfire

I've not pushed the Crossfire hard, but I'm thinking it won't handle as well as the '01 Dodge Viper GTS ;-) But having the top down is nice, and it gets way better mileage!

Don't know about a freeway exit but I have taken a 90 degree banked curve at about 95 with hardly any body roll and without a whimper from the tires.

I responded to his other thread, may as well respond here too.

I've actually had my Crossfire on a couple of different road courses (running the stock Conti Sport Contact 2 tires), so I've pushed it damn hard through all sorts of corners. Nothing unpredictable so far, just running down C5 Corvettes, modified Mustangs, outbraking a Porsche 911 from 125mph, and catching and passing race set up Spec Miatas on R-Compound tires.

Yeah, my lowly little Limited 6M just sucks.

I had no problem taking 55 mph exits at 75+ but when I tried a 25 mph exit at the same speed, it was ugly.

Seriously, what an unscientific question!

The Crossfire can take any turn at 5mph less than the point at which the rear wheels lose traction and toss you into the retaining wall.

Been 120 on a 55 mph off ramp that merged onto another expressway....was in the late hours or early hours whatever ya might wanna call it...I always leave the traction control on...it just might save me one day
But I have BFG'S....I would never have tried the stuff I do with the stock tires....traction control was always kicking in with those tires.
I also upsized the rear tires.
Otherwise the car runs on rails...ask my brother I have bounced his head off the side of the door a few times late at night when he nods off

K.K.

What size and brand of tires are you running on the rears? Any rubbing?

LMAO!!!!!!

I've been known to do that to a coworker when he falls asleep when we go to Grand Rapids and back!

I always love the look he gives me afterwards......usually followed by a few "terms of endearment"
