Re: XF Roadster - soft top fabric problem caused by constructional fault

have there been any reports of any rips, tears, or leaks due to this cosmetic problem? if not, this is something that is just part of the top folding in on itself. imho it is not something to be concerned about; until the top's fabric fails. my top has the same crease, to me its not a big deal. the marks are on both sides of the top too from folding in on itself and no one seems to have a problem with that being the case.

I can say that I am not too concerned - but my car sits in the garage almost ALL of the time with the top up/closed, so "damage" caused by having it in the storage area will take a LONG time to manifest itself.

I will be VERY interested to see if you get ANY cooperation out of Chrysler. I am not a BIG fan of their products, but then again, I am not a big critic of them, either.

Re: XF Roadster - soft top fabric problem caused by constructional fault

You can add mickey5469 to the list 05 Ltd with 70,000 miles noticed problem about 2 years ago

went underneath the crease and with about a 3"long black duc tape, crisscrossed about 6 times i.e. vertical l then crossways + then multiple times * ending up with a 3" diameter circle of tape
about 6 layers thick which was strong enough to cause the fold outside the
original crease

cannot notice at all on the outside and after a while don't notice
from the inside

can't distinguish any further wear on the original crease did not used any glue only the original adhesive held it in place have replaced it twice
in three years but only takes about one minute

I have it also:( Thought, at first, it was damage from a rock which had put a nice dent in my rear deck.

Just noticed it at about 30K

Add me to the list.

Re: XF Roadster - soft top fabric problem caused by constructional fault

This is not my car, but today I went to a local Chrysler Dealer in Toronto who has a 2008 SSB/Nav LTD for sale with 37,000 kms. I wanted to put the top up to see how easily it operated like and what it looked like (material/condition etceteras). That vehicle has the EXACT same crease in the EXACT same spot that is pictured in this thread! Where the spot is, the material does feels physically weak and vulnerable to an easy tear. Other than needing tires, probably brake pads, it is perfect. Albeit, some lucky owner is going to purchase the car and want their name added to the list.

Re: XF Roadster - soft top fabric problem caused by constructional fault

First thanks to all for answers and comments.
Please feel free to add yourself to the list if your Roadster is also affected.

At the moment we have 22 Roadster owners reporting the problem in germany.

Until now we don't have a soft top that was teared, or had a leakeage.
But in some cases the fabric is really really weak.
So it seems that it's only a matter of time until you'll some get a real problem.
Normally a soft top should last for more than 10 years without any special care.

Some of our Roadster users also use a gaffa-tape (very strong duct tape) to keep the top from wrinkling. But that's only a temporary solution, because the duct tape loosens after a while, especially when you have wet and moisty weather. Not every car is garaged. Some are daily drivers - even in winter time.

Thanks and regards from germany
Markus

I have a 2005 N/A Roadster, 47000 miles, and a 2006 SRT6 Roadster, 17000 miles. UK cars. Both have that mark.

Re: XF Roadster - soft top fabric problem caused by constructional fault

My Xfire roadster has a couple of spot or creases that the fabric looks to be thinned out, but no leaks or holes. I guess it would be good to add my Xfire to the list.
Mine has 8300 miles on it, 2006 LTD Roadster, 6 speed, N/A. 6X062735.
