Chrysler to Replace '05 Convertible Tops Under TSB - YAHOO!!
Re: Chrysler to Replace '05 Convertible Tops Under TSB - YAHOO!!
Amazing! Glad they're still helping a few of us, especially over the 100,000 mile limit. Which State was your car first sold in? Do you know the original date of sale?
Re: Chrysler to Replace '05 Convertible Tops Under TSB - YAHOO!!
I bought my 2005 Roadster in 2006. The rear window became unglued in 2011 and Chrysler paid (with a $400 deductible) to have replaced. Just today, I noticed that the new top is becoming unglued so I called Chrysler again and they are refusing to do anything as they say the 2011 was a "one time courtesy". My argument is that they replaced the original top with another defective one with the same bad glue. I have asked to have the case escalated. If they choose not to do anything, I will be contacting an attorney.

But if you do succeed, then many of us will be happy to hear it.....

Yes, I believe my '06 had this problem as the rear window was replaced with a stitched-in-place vinyl insert (glued also?) in lieu of the glass window. I know it originally had the glass as the wiring for the defoster, although disconnected, is still in place.
But my top has other problems - the deck seam on the driver's side has seperated, beginning at the rear support and continuing toward the rear of the car. Not much of a lifecycle for a car with only 26K miles.
I glued the seam with Loctite Fabric glue using black duct tape as backer material. So far it has held through a 1K mile trip and a lot of rain. I've had this car just 2 months and am unimpressed with the top, as well as the cup holder, which broke on this last trip.
Top shops won't fix the seam but will gladly install a new top for $1,799, including installation. I'm saving my pennies...

A lot of good info here. https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...em-solved.html
I used 3M 08609 Window Weld and 08681 primer for the glass. I bought two glass suction cups at Harbor Freight for $8.00 each to hold the glass in place and used an old broom handle sawed in half to support the suction cups with towels. The only thing I did different from the others was to leave the masking tape in place until the glass was in place and scrape the excess sealer away from the fabric before it dried and the removing the tape. This saved a lot of scraping with a razor blade after it was hardened. I used i/2 inch tape and the followed up with 2 inch tape so I wouldn't make a mess of the glass. total cost was about $100.00.
It is difficult to tell it is not original.

Re: Chrysler to Replace '05 Convertible Tops Under TSB - YAHOO!!
I just got off the phone with my local Chrysler dealership. Mine is a 2005 roadster with 49k miles sold in Wisconsin and was eligible for the replacement, but the warranty cutoff date was 11/14. The service manager told me they did a replacement in house in 2013 and it took their tech 2 days. He said the tops are all shrunk and it took forever to get it stretched out to close properly. So I am going to window weld mine back in. Should be a lot easier than replacing the top!
Also just so everybody knows, Chrysler has a central database the service guy can access that has all the warranty work done to your crossfire stored, no matter who owned it and where it was done. Just call and ask them for the info. They can also print out a build sheet if you do not have your original window sticker.

Also somewhere it is stated that the Monroney window sticker printout expires some five? years after the car is sold, which is a pity as many would have got this.
The warranty work is kept on file as is the service work done by dealers. It also will state what work was suggested and if it was done or not. All this comes in handy if they can use it to refuse to do warranty work.
You can still get a build sheet though I believe.

I called the number and they informed that this recall does exist and some may benefit from it. You need the VIN and it takes 5 minutes. What do you have to lose? Unfortunately for me my 2005 Limited Roadster was originally shipped to Maryland and that state is not covered under the extended warranty. If that is the case with you - please search for the DIY video i shared of a gentleman fixing his top effectively. Good luck and THANK YOU KANE for providing the info.

Had mine replaced. No charge. Replacement window and top was perfect. Sold the red crossfire last July. Missed it so I bought a Safire Silver one in October. It had the top replaced by previous owner. This one was sewed in. Luckily my first one was originally delivered to Florida .......one of the states in the recall.

Mine was done about 9 years ago in FL. could have been a dealer charge.
