Convertible top problem-wouldn't go down!
 
A tip for anyone that might have a problem with the new Crossfire Convertible top not wanting to go down.

This occured several times for both myself and my wife before I took in back to the Chrysler dealer. They at first thought it was the partition lid not hooking into the clips tightly in the trunk. They messed with it one day and gae it back to me working again.

I took it and the next day it messed up again. No matter what we did or any combination you might think of trying to get it to work.

Second trip to Chrysler. They said the computer wasn't working correctly and wouldn't allow the top to go down while the windows were already down. This made no sense and I told them to either fix it or keep it!

After erasing all the momory errors in the computer that operates the top, it still malfunctioned so they ordered a new one from back east. After installing it the problem still persisted. In the final anaylsis it was a switch located in the front area of the top where the Release handle is at near the rear view mirror. After they took it apart and adjusted that switch then it worked correctly -finally.

Conclusion! If your top don't work, have then check the lock/unlock switch located in the top header near the twist handle.

I have a feeling that the way it SLAMS shut so hard opening and closing the top front piece that the vinbration is causing that switch to get out of alignment. Just my opinion.

Solution MAYBE, open and close the front half SOFTLY using both hands, not just one!

Maybe this will help one of you and avoid some of the delays and frustration I just went through.

Yep... been dealing with the same dealership since Dec. I have had to use the same phrase several times to get things done there. Glad it's fixed and good luck with the dealer.

I've noticed that the un-snapping of the rear roof when you go to put the top down is quite loud, and it sounds like it's too violent. But what the heck, it's under warranty!

I meant no disrespect for the dealership at all, they have done a fine job and been most helpful and very cooperative. It was a new car and a new problem for all of them including Corporate Chrysler so it was a learning process for all concerned.

I just wanted them to know that if I had wanted a hardtop I would have bought one instead of a $40,000 convertible that the top won't work! HA

I am most pleased with the dealership Superstition Springs Chrysler in Mesa.

Remember,according to my dealer, the warranty for the top is 3 years after that you are on your own unless you purchase the extended warranty. I did seeing all that could go wrong with the top I felt it was cheap insurance.

I figured I'd drive it about 2-3 years and then buy an extended warranty on it then.

i agree with doc...why pay "now" for an extended warranty when you already have a 3 year warranty free from chrysler. if you purchase the extended warranty up front your throwing money down the drain for double coverage. :? my 2 cents.


104 cars???? family owned or just yours and your wife's cars? seems almost hard to believe....the pictures are helping though. :wink:

I also bought the extended warranty. It really makes no difference when you buy it -- if you buy a 7/70, it starts the day the car is put in service, so in reality you're buying a 4/34 extension. You can buy the warranty right up until the 3/36 expires, although waiting until the final year carries a slightly higher fee. Remember, the cost of a warranty is negotiable; don't be afraid to shop around.

lets hope you didn't roll that extended warranty in to the financing of the car. that would be costly mistake to pay in advance for 3 years of extended coverage (plus interest) you can't use during your normal chrysler warranty period. :(

And the Chrysler extended warranty is transferrable to next owner, which can be a plus when selling since they'd get the balance of the extended warranty vice just the balance of the standard warranty. Sell your Crossfire after say 2 years and your buyer is getting 5 years of coverage rather than just 1 :!:
