key programmimg

hi was wondering can anyone help with a key problem i have ?
i replaced the keyfob cover as the misses broke the original when she slammed the front door with the bunch of keys still in it .
swapped every thing over fine ,didnt damage anything internally when i did either
the fob opens and locks the doors no problems
turn the key in the ignition and the car starts for 2 secs then cuts out .
it all works fine on my other key so im guessing there is now some kind of issue with the code in the key ??
any ideas plz?

I'm no expert on this . . . did you swap over that little transponder chip from your old fob to your new fob?

Well that was the depth of my input . . . Sorry.

I have the opposite problem. I did the switch over on two different old key fobs into new fob cases. Both cars start and run fine but I can't get the new fobs programed to lock / unlock on either fob. I know I didn't damage the printed circuit boards and everything worked from the old damaged fobs. So as I said, I'm no expert on this. I'm still trying to learn. :(

i think you are right and iv co*ked up here !
iv just taken key apart again to check and iv just seen the "little black transponder"under the button,,
i dont think i did swap that as i didnt notice it :(
that explains a lot and im guessing that was an expensive mistake on my part..
the correct one must still be in the original case (which went in the bin)
im a dumb*ss

Well yes, I'm afraid you screwed up and that IS an expensive mistake . . . Glad we figured out the problem but sorry there is no good solution for you. You'll need to go search the land fill for your old key fob or order a new key . . . Also you should continue to remind your wife of the ongoing problem she's caused for you . . .

Rob at Needswings can get you a new key at a reasonable price. Start by e-mailing him at sales@needswings.com.

With key in the ignition press either the lock or unlock button twice on the fob. Turn ignition on within 30 seconds wait a few seconds and turn it off. See if that doesn't work

The OP said in post #1 the fob unlocks and locks the doors so this is not the required action, this action just pairs the car to the lock/unlock fob function only. He has lost the transponder chip.

Hey onehundred80 . . . I think cobraken was trying to help me . . .

Hey Cobraken, Thanks but I've tried programming the key fobs like that and no luck. I think the batteries are not making contact / powering the printed circuit board. I've put the key fobs away as they are now just my spare keys anyway. I will try to tackle that issue again at a later time. Appreciate your attempt to help . . .
