2005 Roadster Antenna Assembly Replacement
 

To all,
Has anyone on the forum replaced the entire antenna assembly, and can you offer hints/tips to accomplish if your arms are too short and fingers too fat? Weather has deteriorated the base and mast and it's time to replace them.

See two methods: 1) Through the trunk after removing the left-side liner; 2) Going topless halfway when the cowl is fully raised before the top stows.

Additionally, is a special tool required to access the very tight and restricted inner fender area and loosen the mounting base nut? Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

Access the inner fender area using either method (I use #2 to access that area) but be sure to prop up the tonneau cover open as the hydraulic pressure will release after a time and the tonneau lid will come falling down. Then remove the left taillight (three 10mm nuts). Once the taillight is out you can easily access the antenna mount. There is a single nut holding it in place (I forget the size). Disconnect the antenna wire and slip the appropriate size socket onto the nut to remove it. Then the whole antenna base section can be lifted out of the fender.

Note, the antenna base unit is rather expensive to replace and most likely the only problem with your base is the deterioration of that rubber gasket piece. It is best to "make" a new rubber gasket (pretty easy to do once you have everything apart and can use the old gasket as a template). Then reinstall the base. You can get a replacement antenna mast on E-Bay . . . lots of options. If you buy a shorter mast or a stubby mast, be prepared for a significant loss of radio signal strength.

Thank you for the great advice. Removal of the tail light assembly was the key and the job took about 30 minutes. Appreciate the help!
