Convertible rear window repair question
Hey folks, I've got a question regarding the rear window repair. I've read the "excellent" guide on re-gluing the window, but I'm curious as to the folded over part of the canvas. On mine, the folded part is loose. Should that be glued down tight first? Or leave it loose and the glue will soak through?
It just seems like it won't hold the window tight if that flap is loose.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

A bit of advice on expectations. I did a glue job using the 3m glue but did not use a primer. I used an other glue in between the fabric flap. It held about 9 months. My top is most likely original. I think the process of putting the up and down put's extra stress on the fabric at the rear of the window causing it to break loose in the corner. So don't be surprised if does not last.

Mine has lasted 8+ years. Be sure all of the old material is removed and you use the primer. Don't skimp on the glue. I put masking tape on the glass the keep the glue from spreading and removed the excess before it set completely. Be sure the glass is pushed tightly against the top until it dries. I used suction cups on the top and towels behind. I was able to let mine set for three days to be sure it set completely. I did order a BAS top, just in case but haven't needed it so far. Good luck.
I have clamps and a bottle of primer if you want them. Pay shipping from North Carolina. I gave up on repairing. Mike

3M Single Step Primer, 08682, Black Color, One-Part Urethane, UV Resistant, 30 mL/1.01 fl oz
Did mine about 6 months ago. Completely removed the Al ring. Cleaned the ring, glass and both sides of canvas with razor blades. Was a lot of work! Coated all with the 3M primer. Glued together with the 3m urathane. It was messy and took 2 people to assemble. I had bought the supplies when it first started failing, needed to get all new stuff when I did it, it has a short shelf life. Between the two batches of stuff $160 ea and the time to clean everything, probably 16 hrs. And re assembly, one day for the ring glue up, and a second day for the window glue up. About a month after getting that done the tension straps to the rear top bow fell apart, still dealing with that. Window is still holding in strong, just started hitting 115 here in Az. Will see if that lasts.
Hind sight being what it is, buy a BAS top and be done with it. Not sure if they come with the bow straps, but replace those too.
fyi, in a past life I was an auto glass technician so I kinda know a little. Still went thru an entire 100 count box of nitrile gloves, and probably 50 razor blades.
Can it be done? Yes. Should it be done? What’s $850 worth to you?

Also, if the window is falling out, one could make the assumption that the rest of the top doesn't look as new anymore either. Why not treat a rare, beautiful collector's car to a new top and make it look new again?
Unfortunately the bow straps are not part of the BAS kit, however many don't need them replaced. All depends on what shape they are in. But they can be purchased for not that much money so if they look worn or frail, I'd just go ahead and replace those, too.
I am looking to replace my soft top as it has other issues beside. the back window. Frame is good and works perfectly. I am in Phoenix AZ .. any recommendations?
Order a new top from BAS International , about $800, and have it installed. Thee are people on the forum that do the installations if you can' find anyone local.
I’m in Tempe if you want a hand not really much to it. Probably be a nice steak and some blue moon.
