Hydraulic cylinder disassembly?
i'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice about how to remove the bottom end cap on the main cylinders? i'd normally send these out for a rebuild but i'm trying to have it fixed by sunday night.
I believe (I could be wrong) that where the lower pin goes through the main cylinder body is a separate piece and can be removed. It almost looks like the bottom is crimped. I'm trying to separate that piece and replace the o- ring.
You may want to look through this thread. The only O-rings you may be able to replace yourself are where the lines go into the cylinders.

That being said I sent mine out. I have other stuff to address on my car and the weather will be nice next weekend as well, hopefully I'll have them back by then. I'll inspect the body of the cylinders and possibly buy a used one and rebuild it myself in hopes I can offer same day service to my customers.
I will. Not sure how much I'll want to invest in cylinders, looks like crazy money for them in eBay in used condition. I'll get one soon enough I'm sure.
Today I put in a new ignition lock housing after I did the stuck key mod. Next is a 60k service, I'm at 67k.
When I had mine rebuilt after I removed them from the car I just put the top up manually and still drove the car. Just wrap the end of the hydraulic lines with a towel for any leakage you might get putting the top up and down manually. I would still put my top down to drive if it was nice outside until it was fixed.

Looks like they did indeed cut the bottom. So if I think I know how it comes apart... The top of the for gets screwed off and the bottom get removed and the cylinder gets slid off the rod. I'll keep my eye out for a used one.
Edit: first picture is rebuilt one, 2nd is stock, before rebuild.

I also had a cylinder concern. I did disconnect the cylinder and replaced the o rings on the lines to the cylinder in hopes it would be a cheaper fix. It did not work. I had to order the new cylinders from Top Hydraulic.
