2006 Crossfire Totaled - Parts Question
A texter rear ended my wife the other day and pushed her crossfire into a Texas sized truck bumper. Car is bent and totaled. They'll be picking it up this week. Assume the car will be auctioned off to a junk yard for parts.
Wondering if there are some parts I should take off that are of high value. I already removed the two nice fog lights. Anything else folks can think of? thanks |
Re: 2006 Crossfire Totaled - Parts Question
the trim strip above the windshield fer sure.
all the modules in the box by the battery, and the pulse module in the fuse container. fan control module alternator siren module ignition lock, keys and SKREEM module as a set along with PTCM inside and outside mirrors locking pump in the trunk radio a/c control module headlight switch I'm assuming the headlights and tail lights are toast |

orbit398 - Where are you located? Lots of parts might be a asset if you near to someone who can pick them up from you. Soonerfan on this site just sold her XF to her mechanic and it was wrecked too. He's needing some parts. Look up parting out white crossfire, or something like that. Maybe that will help both of you. Her name is Denise and a very pleasant person.

Re: 2006 Crossfire Totaled - Parts Question
thanks, but the insurance company of the woman who hit my wife is have a towing company come pick the car up from my house. I can't strip the car as I assume they'll try to auction the car off to collect some funds. Was just wondering if there was something that was worth getting off the car that isn't too obvious. I did have to replace the fog lights through the years so I grabbed those. I took the newish battery out also for my boat as having a backup is nice.

Re: 2006 Crossfire Totaled - Parts Question
If you can get the RCM (relay control module) out of the black fuse box next to where your battery was, I would be interested in it, if your car was running fine and no relay problems. Let me know.

Re: 2006 Crossfire Totaled - Parts Question
orbit398 - Forgot to mention that since you have the battery out, if you get to the RCM just cut the wire's back about 5 or 6 inches and then remove it.

Re: 2006 Crossfire Totaled - Parts Question
;) Just be very careful hacking the car apart. IF you get caught, you may lose a portion of, all, or open yourself up to a legal problem. Once any tow truck took it, it technically isn't yours any more (except for the settlement $). This is done so parts removal isn't done. I suppose insurance companies did this MANY decades ago for this reason. ;)

Re: 2006 Crossfire Totaled - Parts Question
Can take things like the rcm and the trunk lettering, if there is any left.
Me, I would take off the windshield trim. Hidden electronics like the screen and everything to go with it. I would take off what you want, most ins representatives from opposing insurance company would tell you the same thing. |
Re: 2006 Crossfire Totaled - Parts Question
As GraphiteGhost said, they guy that came to pick up the car was very particular about it's condition and too pictures ect. The car is going to Action to be come a parts car. Glad I didn't take parts off etc....
Was just to bent for me to mess with. Thanks for the replies anyway, sorry I could be more helpful to folks. |
Re: 2006 Crossfire Totaled - Parts Question
It is your car until you sign it off, if it is taken from your driveway without your permission they have stolen it. They may just bluff you out by getting you to sign a receipt in which case you are at their mercy for a settlement.
Always have the car towed to your residence unless it is total loss, when it ends up in some pound and you want to part the car out the storage fees will not make it worthwhile as they have you by the shorts. You have the right to decide where it is towed to, some cops get kick backs for having it towed to a certain place. This is in Canada, most other places have similar laws. It is your car until you sign it over. |
Re: 2006 Crossfire Totaled - Parts Question
We settle on a price for the totaled car, now that they've it picked up, I'll be paid. I signed off with the two driver, so all is done....
