Need help seeing if these costs are off the wall.
 

I have a 2005 SRT Roadster that needs some major work. The car has about 80,000 miles on it. Honestly, other then oil changes, a water-pump and alternator I have not put any money into the car since purchased. I live near New York City where all costs are high. Please do not comment on DIY costs as I am not handy at all. I am going to have a quality shop, used to working on Mercedes, do the work. Again. So here we go, please let me know if this is on the level.

1. Complete engine oil and filter replacement. $49.95 for the first 5qts of oil and the filter. The additional 3.3qts of oil is $31.33

2. Remove and replace the front brake pads, rotors, sensor, clean and lubricate the slide pins and cradles, and inspect the calipers. $498.00

3. Remove and replace the rear brake pads, rotors, sensor, clean and lubricate the slide pins and cradles, and inspect the calipers. $498.00

4. Remove and replace the front coil springs, shocks, mounts, and hardware (Broken). $1,445.95 (major safety concern)

5. Remove and replace the rear coil springs, shocks, mounts, and hardware (Cracked). $2,308.51 (safety concern)

6. Replace the two rear tires with the continental extreme contact DWS06. Mounted and balanced $543.88

7. Complete a 4-wheel alignment $139.95

8. Remove and replace the engine drive belt, tensioner, and idlers. $963.19

9. Install missing clamp, clean the engine and shields to remove all residual fluid, top off the coolant, and pressure test for further leaks. $249.38

10. Diagnose the tire pressure monitoring system faults. $118.75 I will then give you a call back with our findings.

1 and 7 and maybe 6 are the only ones even close to reasonable.
8,9,5,4,2,3 are totally off the wall.

I would like to know what is broken or cracked and who says they are broken and cracked.
They are talking about Mobil 0W-40 oil or equivalent?
The total is about half the value of the car. It all seems a bit vague to me.
I would get a second or third opinion before I laid out that money.

HI Rick. Where did you find someone (anyone) in the area that will work on (or even heard of) a Crossfire?! I'm in NYC and have spent the better part of the last month trying to find someone to work on my 2005. No one I've found has a working DRB with and Orange card or the proper emulator. My little red rag top only has 16,000 miles because, honestly, how many days a year can it be driven around here?

Holy crap, yes get opinions from other shops.
Was that dealer pricing ?
None of it is hard or time consuming to do.
Do you have a price list per part that was quoted ?

I am in total agreement. People here are like get 3 estimates, but honestly nobody wants to take in the car. I called half a dozen shops including Mercedes and Chrysler and they just decline even entertaining looking at the car. I think it is why that quote is a premium, the shop who quoted me has strong Mercedes experience and backs their work by a 3 year warrenty.

I feel the quote is way over priced but I ha e put very little work into the car in over 14 years, $7,000 in work equates two years of auto payments on a car that would in no way compare the my SRT Roadster. Over paying for serviice is a tough pill to swallow. Unless someone has a recommendation for a shop in NJ, PA or CT. I am kind of screwed.

Several of those are OBVIOUSLY attempts to take advantage of what little you know about the car, or cars in general.

I do find it curious that the oil change is so cheap, it costs me that much to do it myself - but most of the others are asinine.

They probably quoted him for five quarts of Havoline and a $2 filter :)

I am 59 years old, have driven a LOT of cars past 100,000 miles and a handful past 200,000 miles in MICHIGAN roads.
I've never replaced springs. Not once. My Graphite roadster got shocks at 105,000 and I was sorry I changed them - old ones were fine, new ones (not OEM) were too stiff.


This is asinine.

Rick, I have an SRT, my second one. Ran over a low curb in NJ with the first one and ins. totaled it. I feel your "frame". :cool: My son has an Audi TT and had these guys.. https://www.motorsportgmbh.com work on it. Clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder and some other things done for less than half your quote. I spoke to them when I dove him to pick it up his TT and they said they would have no problem working on my SRT. There is another place I've heard of in NJ that'll work on crossfires: Auto Sumser, Saddle River Rd in Fairlawn, 201-797-7684. I haven't been there so it's an unknown shop to me but at least an option.
