Re: SRT-6 on ebay for under $20K
That's a private bid. I'm not sure what that is but everytime I've seen one it has a low priced car. Can anyone explain this?

Re: SRT-6 on ebay for under $20K
Hello all. I'm new to the forum and plan on getting a crossfire soon (provided I can find what I want at the right price). I too saw this car on ebay yesterday and wondered what was up with not being able to bid or buy it now. If anyone knows anything about how this private auction thing works, please post.

Re: SRT-6 on ebay for under $20K
I have an '04 Crossfire hard top with 27,000 miles but at the price of this car I was tempted to just buy it and then sell mine. Of course its in California and shipping would run about $1,500. to get it to NY but still...

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Re: SRT-6 on ebay for under $20K
The car is supposedly in Granite Bay, CA. This is right near my kids. Thought this might be a nice car for them (they really like my coupe). Ran the eBay car check.
(The sound of alarm bells going off). Although it came back "clean" it listed orig DMV from 09/04 in Illinois. A posting on 3/05 for registration in Florida with a mileage of 17,063. That is 2,000 - 3,000 miles from Granite Bay, CA. AND 16 months of driving. Considering it only took six months to pile up 17,063 miles, I am certain there is another sizeable chunk that has been added. Looks like this low mileage (10292 listed) is not what it seems. Considering they are asking about $10K under what they are selling for... I have reported this to eBay... |
Re: SRT-6 on ebay for under $20K
Good catch SRT SIX!
I'm guessing that they were using the pre-approved bidder format along with the price to get giddy bidders to make large offers (via contact the seller) and then subsequently contact them outside of ebay to finish the scam. Once again the following old saying holds: "If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is not true." |
Re: SRT-6 on ebay for under $20K
That is exactly what happened. I chatted live with eBay last night and requested to be part of the private bidding on that item. This morning the car is gone and eBay sent me a note of outside bidding from them, warning me if an attempt is made. My problem is after 1,000 trades and having never gotten burnt I let my guard down and this could of gone the other way. :(

Re: SRT-6 on ebay for under $20K
Yep, if it sounds to good to be true, then it is.
I figured the scam was that they would get credit card information to "qualify" a bidder and then run up as much on the credit card as they could. |
Re: SRT-6 on ebay for under $20K
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I sent an email to eBay about my suspicions concerning mileage discrepancies and the "too low" Buy-it-Now price. I got a computer generated response immediately followed by another by an investigator complete with his name.
This morning the scam was off eBay. Getting a great buy is one thing. Getting the shaft is another. Caveat emptor, baby! ;) |
