Winter Splinter!!
Well winter (burrr) is almost here...It is going to put some sort of damper on our enjoyment of the crossfire eventually. I was thinking about getting some winter tires on it, but I have a beater... and I guess I am going to use the beater when it snows and there is snow and salt on the roads
What are y'all planning to do? Use winter tires or use the beater??? If you have winter tires, how many inches of snow will deter you from driving the X? |
Re: Winter Splinter!!
Heated garage for mine, way too much snow and salt in Wi.

Re: Winter Splinter!!

Re: Winter Splinter!!
Ah, the advantages of living in Florida! Year-round enjoyment of my SRT-6. Alas, this too will come to an end as I am scheduled to move to DC next summer. Oh well, one last winter without snow.

Re: Winter Splinter!!
Do not subject the car to snow and salt.
Be patient and put her away for the winter. I have the opposite issue in AZ. I put her away in the summer... The sun is pretty tough on car's in the summer. It's time to play for me... |
Re: Winter Splinter!!
All of you really confuse me...
Please define... Winter Snow Rain Cold I am not familiar with those words. A seasonal change in SoCal is a difference of a max 20 degrees....We use our Crossfires year round...LOL. ;) |
Re: Winter Splinter!!
Lucky you. :p You da Man... ;) We can see a 20 degree change in one afternoon.

Re: Winter Splinter!!
I am in Philadelphia. I have the factory contis. I drove last winter and will drive this winter.
The important part is to wash the salt off. If the snow is deep, well that is what days off are for... :) |
Re: Winter Splinter!!
Yea, I figure if I can ride a sport bike through the winter (bought my current CBR 600rr in December of last year and had no car until Nov when I bought this xfire)... I think I can deal with winter conditions in the xfire.
We don't get much salt on the roads around here... maybe only a few snowy/icy days in recent times... when it does freeze they USUALLY put down sand instead of salt. Actually I figure the ONLY time I drive the xfire is when below freezing with precipitation or when I need to pick something up or drop it off... otherwise I ride the CBR. Rock |
Re: Winter Splinter!!
I live in south-central Indiana, I've seen over 60 degree changes in one day. There is a saying here in indiana, if you don't like the weather, stick around it'll change. The new SRT6 stay's in a heated garage, I drive the leased Xfire till the snow gets to deep, then I break out the big o'l jacked up chevy 4X4 redneck truck with 33" knobby tires.
