Default Tire blow out.

Had an interesting experience today, a high speed blow out, on the Interstate, the car didn't wobble or anything, there was a huge bang (sounded like something hit the car body very hard) then a few seconds later the low pressure light came on...so I slowed down from around 75 mph to about 60 mph, tried the steering and drove maybe another mile to a safer place to stop... sure enough the rear was flat. With three holes in the side wall. Not much point in using the run flat for that.
Called Chrysler who arranged for a free tow to the dealer... who arranged for a free hire car (actually Enterprise hadn't got a car spare so they drove me 25 miles home - I was quite impressed).
The tire turned out to have three nails in it !!! But I have to say I was amazed at how well the Michelin Pro sport handles in a blow out. Sadly the experience will cost at least $380 but oh well...

Glad to hear that you're okay. High speed blowouts can often lead to different results.

Glad to hear you are ok. It's also good that the Crossfire stays stable after a blowout. Things can get ugly quick at those speeds. I guess the stiff sidewalls on our tires help.

Question Re: Tire blow out.

You Mention Michelin ''Pro-Sport'' Tires...I Take It That These Are Replacements, As My Srt-6 Has Continental ''Conti'' Touring Tires..Is This What You Put On, Or Was The Car Previously Owned?

Hi,
The tires came with the car... we have the continentals on the Ltd Crossfire we have, they are great tires but don't have the grip the Michelins have - the Michelins are more expensive and, wont last as long, and don't like cold weather... so I will probably change back to Continentals, or maybe the Yokohama tires that are available...
