Ltd. Convertible or SRT-6 Coupe
So I am looking to sell my 1993 Corvette 40th Anniversary coupe and get into a Crossife of some sort. The vet has just been too much of a money drain and with one problem after another, I am scared of what may be next. I have found a couple Limited COnvertibles near me ($20,000ish with about 10,000mi) and one SRT-6 coupe (just under 10,000mi for $21,000).
My dream would be an SRT-6 Convertible, but I think right now it is just too out of my price range. Anyway, I would like to hear some feedback on which XFire would be a better choice for me. I liked the open top of the vet, which the convertible would have, but also liked the performance which the SRT would have. I am 28 years old and live in Iowa. This would be a 2nd car for me, so I know that it does not need to be good in the snow or poor weather. So, Convertible vs. SRT: Does one have more expenses than the other? Is one more reliable? Are there more common problems with one than the other? Will I like the openness of the convertible more, or the performance of the SRT more? Anything I am not factoring in? Any input would be great. Thanks! |

Power vs Wind/sky/sunshine
Gas mileage would be the main difference. Atleast 5 mpg difference unless you are really leadfooted, then more. |
Re: Ltd. Convertible or SRT-6 Coupe
If what you really want is an SRT-6 convertible just keep looking. You may need to go with one that has a little higher mileage for budget reasons, but why settle for something that your not going to be happy with. Better to wait a little and save up another couple grand.
The SRT-6 coupe is a great car, but nothing beats a sports car with the top down. The limited convertible is a nice choice and you can get a stick, but you need to be satisfied with peppy more than fast. A handfull of folks that weren't have spent silly money trying to modify the limited but ended up with a car that is still much slower than the SRT and after the cost of mods a whole lot more expensive. |
Re: Ltd. Convertible or SRT-6 Coupe
Neither really has more expenses (except gas milage) over the other. Since your ride has been a vette, go for the SRT. If you really want topless, wait and find one. Keep looking, they can be found. Good luck!

Re: Ltd. Convertible or SRT-6 Coupe
I agree. First, get rid of the money pit. Second, save up and get the srt convert if that's what you want. They're out there if you do some looking and will travel (ie; cars.com). I personally looked at the convert ltd in Signal Hill, CA. and it was a beauuuutiful car. But, the engine compartment isn't nearly as pretty. There's a graphite srt convert in Huntington Beach, CA. that's very nice. Both of these cars are under 300 miles. pm me with any q's.

Re: Ltd. Convertible or SRT-6 Coupe
adamtmo000, where are you located that you can find a $21k SRT-6 coupe nearby?
Also, I can vouch for the Huntington Beach Crossfires. I've seen them in person (2 SRT-6 coupes, at least 1, if not 2 SRT-6 Roadsters), and they're all extremely low mileage (less than 300) and in very good shape. |
Re: Ltd. Convertible or SRT-6 Coupe
Go with an SRT and an extended warranty - and ENJOY!! Performance is probably a little better than your old vette, Crossfires are not as common on the streets as Vettes, and... I think you get more good looks in a convertible crossfire than you would in a convertible vette - granted some of the looks are people trying to just figure out what kind of a car it is.
