Default Oil change made easy

I did the oill changes in my SRT's yesterday and enjoyed doing them both. I bought a 6 1/4 gallon General Hydraulics oil extractor and hooked it up to my compressor. After warming the engine for about 7 minutes I inserted the suction tube down the dipstick tube and opened the valve. It took about 5 minutes to suck out all the oil. Popped in the new Mann filter (from German Filters, 4 pack for $58) and O-rings, added the 8 1/2 quarts of Mobil 1 and done in 20 mins each. I wish the filer was on the top of all my vehicles! What a piece of cake this makes it.

That sounds easy. Do you have any pictures of your process?

The extractor is nice but its almost as easy doing it the old fashioned way through the drain plug. Its a far cry from the old days!

Thats a pretty cool gadget. I just bought my XF a couple weeks ago and I bought the stuff to do an oil change today. I bought a Fran oil filter? Is that OK. The guy told me Fran makes most of the OEM filters for the car companies and he said Fran makes as good of a filter as there is so I bought it for $11.00 but I didn't put it in yet. Please let me know if is ok to use a Fran Filter please thanks. You seem to know a lot about oil changes. Thanks again

Just have to let you know it is Fram not Fran.
Good quality for the money but in this world of high tech it seems no matter what you buy there is always something better.
Enjoy the Ride...

The topsider does the same if you don't have a compressor. You just have to pump it but it's a lot cheaper.

Cool Re: Oil change made easy

Since the extractor has a samller capacity resorvoir than how much oil is in the car, what did you do 3/4's of the way through? Thinking of doing this but am not real 'mechanical' - thanks -

It holds 6-1/4 gallons the car only holds 2 gallons and a 1/2 quart.

I couldnt find the topsider when I was looking and I also liked the idea of the 6 1/4 gallon tank. I can use it for two oil changes or for emptying out my lath gear box also. The lath is a real pain to do by hand. This should work great on the 7.3L diesel too. Another 8 qts to suck up.

is there somewhere you can bring the old oil to dispose of it properly? i never do my own oil changes but after bringing in my crossfire for its first oil change and being charged 120$ for it i think ill start doing it myself! especially if its only 20 mins as opposed to over 2 hours at the dealership..

Most Auto Zones accept used oil or check with you local Quick Lube, some will let you dump your used oil if you throw'em a little business once in a while. We actually have a recycle center close by that works out great for me.
