The rain almost spoiled our fun, but it all worked out in the end, and the rain actually brought the temps down a bit. As we loaded my friends mustang in the rain the report from the track was that it was all clear. So we hid out at the Harley shop until the rain let up and made our 30min trip.

I let the car cool a bit then made my first pass. I challenged a brand new C6-Z06. Should have got some practice in first. He beat me 12.2 to my 12.6. Bad launch for me, but he did red light so I guess technically I won. He was pretty shocked though and asked how much I was spraying. I laughed and told him none. I finally let him know that it was supercharged and we chatted a bit. Cool guy and a bad *** car, I bit off a little more than I could chew.

Next run I pulled the passenger seat to see what would happen. I've been thinking about getting some lightweight racing seats. So I decided to test the weight savings. I ran a 12.5

I let the car sit for about an hour. I then decided to pull the grill and pack my IC tank full of ice. I was now getting the hang of launching the car and had a pretty good technique. Stall it up till it lurches then a quick mash of the gas while simultaniously releasing the brake. It felt great off the line. I ran my best 12.3@112 then hot lapped it right after and ran a 12.4@111.

I am very pleased, considering I have the same exact tune as Needswings, but no manifolds=pig rich and My exhaust is hacked due to a crappy E- cutout install, that are now blocked off. Once The weather cools and I get my hands on those intake manifolds 11's should not be a problem.

Great job man! Any videos of your runs? That is funny about the hondas, they always seem to break when they are at the track lmao. Those poor honda guys will spend all year to get their "monsters" ready then the one day they do make it to the track they blow their motors or tranny or axels lol.

Yes I too am a member of the broke honda club. I just picked up a 92 SI with a 2000 JDM Type-R motor and tranny. It went 13.8 at the track and I have been driving it all week. I got home thursday night and noticed it was leaking tranny fluid. I am quite pissed. I bought it as a beater to drive during the week and eventually do some road course events, so I guess I'll be on the bike next week until I can get it fixed.:mad:

I gotta give it to the S2k though. Once he upgrades the rear end and axels it will be a monster. I guess I'm just partial since I used to own one.

What was the outside temperature?

And when you launched did you push the throttle all the way to the kick down switch?

TC on or off?

First gear or "D"?

TC off
Small burnout
Hoosiers had 20psi in them
First gear
Stalled the car up until the point where it started to lurch forward.
I then mashed the gas pedal with a lot of force and as fast as I could while simulataniously releasing the brake. It felt good once I got it down. Still couldn't get that elusive 1.7 short time though.

I was going to try the Quaife Torsional Diff. I've heard from people who have them in their C32s that with the car in Dyno mode (i.e. traction system completely off) it shaves 3-4 tenths off the 0-60 time compared to running with the system on, but the button set to off, which is generally the fastest. The diff isn't officially listed by Quaife to work in the SLK or SRT-6, so I'm going to look into how different the setup actually is.

Nice job; 11's are coming in a few months for sure.

I went out to the track a couple weeks ago and it was 102* ambient temp at 8pm and about 12% humidity................the DA was a wonderfull 5600feet. :( I wish I was at sea level.

What does DA stand for? I assume i means elevation, or "something" altitude?

Density Altitude.....................basically it's a calculated altitude that factors in all of the necessary elements.
Example

My track is at 2200 feet elevation...........the DA the last time I ran put it at 5600 feet elevation(equivalent). So it was like I was actually running at 5600 feet which relates to much slower times than those who are lucky enough to be at/near sea level where you can actually achieve a NEGATIVE DA at times.

This might be off topic, but does any drag strip give better looking timeslips than the standard thermal printer paper?

I mean, why not print nice looking time slips with big letters/numbers on quality paper? They all look like receipts from a gas station... :confused:

How about having a weather station local to the track that records air temperature, relative humidity and puts it on the timeslip?

How about a simple line chart that shows distance vs. time?

How about a dragstrip "binder" that the frequent drag racer can use to hold their timeslips.

Just throwing out ideas...

You can always check to the local airport and get weather information from either an AWOS or ASOS, even density altitude. Most airports have a local phone you can dial. Just google the airport identifier closest to the track and get all the information.

i.e Shreveport, LA Airport = SHV

Scroll down to Airport Communications and call 318-636-5757 usually a recorded weather message - if not, just ask for Air temp, Dew Point and an Altimeter reading. Then, along with the track elevation, you can go here http://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_da.htm

Plug in the numbers and discover your density altitude (easier then buying and learning an E6B flight computer)
