Soon to be new owner IS a new owner - permagrin installed

Thanks for the help on the questions about the extended warranty and the possible inspection for CPO. I am now the PROUD owner of a Black on Black 2005 Crossfire SRT-6 Convertible, exactly what I was hoping to find. Last 5 of the VIN = 56178 (I will add it to the list after I'm done with this post).

I flew from Milwaukee to Columbus, OH (with return ticket, just in case) to test drive and purchase the car. After 5 minutes in the car I shook the prev owner's hand and said that we had a deal. He had a bit of seller's remorse, but couldn't keep the car due to speeding tickets. I think his wife is going to miss it more than he will. I reassured her that they had made somebody else very happy and that it will be well cared for. 9 hours later I arrived home and my cheeks hurt from smiling all the way home, even through downtown Chicago since I-80/94 was closed due to high water and I couldn't take the bypass.

I've been reading up on this site since May when I first started thinking about moving my '85 Supra due to it's starting to nickel and dime me. With 3 kids I didn't have the time to keep taking it to a mechanic and I was getting frustrated having to do it more and more often. It was my second '85 Supra. I had sold the first one that I had owned from '86-99 and regretted it two days later. It was bullet proof because I don't drive that aggressively and I'm sure it would have lasted without problems if I would have kept it, but after having my third child it just didn't fit into the picture. I bought the second one 4 years ago and it looked good, but mechanically I don't think that it was well taken care of because the problems that I started having were indications that it was driven hard (reinforced my regret in selling the first one). Didn't want to get a Xfire until I sold it. Luckily, I found somebody that wanted a good looking shell, had the time and ability to fix things himself, and was going to do an engine swap for more hp. I gave him a very good price for it and I believe that the kharma in the universe appreciated that because 2 weeks later I found exactly what I was looking for, for way less than I expected to pay.

I do love the look of the Xfire, but my Original Super Dark Red '85 Supra will always be my first (vehicle) true love.

Congrats. You found one of my twins. Good thing you are not an aggressive driver and you don't live in Ohio.

Have fun. I figure there are approx. 300 - 330 SRT's black roadsters based on the numbers that RPM was originally keeping. ( He also has our twin) and now kept by Cross???Fun:cool:

Congratulations! Did you buy it from a dealer in Columbus? If so which one? Our cars could have been built the same day, my build number is 56,203.

Congrats on the car, Yes another Crossfire owner sucked into never ending vortex of the forum. Enjoy the ride! I picked my roadster LTD up in Toledo about a year ago and drove it back to Virginia 6 hours - I am still grinning!

You'll enjoy it for a long time. Strangely, I bought my SRT6 in Chicago this past January (beat ya to it). Just don't expect too much traction in the snow, no matter the tires or what anyone else says. The dealer delivered it to me in Holland MI during a snowstorm and while he had no problems on the highway, once he hit my subdivision with about 6" of snow, he got stuck every fifty feet.

Congrats on the new (to you) SRT-6. I've only had mine for 3 months and I haven't stopped smiling since. Good luck with it and welcome to the forum.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Goldwing - This winter it stays inside so I can put the factory stereo back in. Original owner replaced it with a nice Pioneer, but it doesn't have any preset buttons on the face. It takes a minimum of 3 presses to change to a different station. It's also predominantly black and doesn't look all that great in the dash.

Raddy21 - Seller told me he listed it on Thursday, but I didn't see it until Friday night too late to call. Thought I had blown it. I was afraid somebody would highlight it in the For Sale section and it wouldn't last. When I called on Saturday I couldn't believe that I was the first to call.

Tim-

I know what you mean about the early Supras. I've owned both the '85 Supra and Celica-GTS, mint/lo miles each. Currently, 3 of my 5 vehicles are Toyota products (06' 4Runner, 07' Scion TC, and 03' Tacoma).

However, when I took my first ride in the SRT-6, it became my favorite car ever. As I've owned it the past 7 months, it has performed with Toyota-like rock solid reliability. It's plenty fast and well-engineered out of the box. I have no desire to mod mine.
