2001 SLK32 in the 11's
I was just cruising around on MBworld and saw "LAZ" pointing out that he ran a 11.90 I believe with schrick cams and a pulley! He's on dragtimes also with a 11.9 and 12.2. maybe the cam is next??? (he did have kleeman rear lsd, but his 60ft. was like 1.8 so I don't think that is a huge factor?) I wonder what the cams would do for us?
http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...ag-Racing.html Edit: after reading some more about the schrick cams they only make about 20 hp, a joke for the money! This guy must be hiding a bottle or something, he does not even list a tune? |

I know what they would do for us..............empty our wallets!!! Those cams are the MOST overpriced cam(s) I have seen. It's almost as horrible a price gouge as the $7000 ECU tunes for Mercedes 65 AMG cars. |
Re: 2001 SLK32 in the 11's
Wouldn't it be possible to work with one of the major cam companies like Crower to get some cam profiles out for us?

Re: 2001 SLK32 in the 11's
Cams would definitely be nice addition to our aftermarket. Let me rephrase that, Reasonably priced cams would be a nice addition to our aftermarket. Lets face it tho, anything made for these cars is going to be a lil expensive do to the small market. :(

My cams are NOT a seriesproductions, i order the tuffest cams you can get from Shrick. The idle is not the best but.....

Re: 2001 SLK32 in the 11's
It's my understanding that "Lunati Cams" will custom grind a cam to your specifications at a reasonable cost. Maybe this could be a possibility.

Re: 2001 SLK32 in the 11's
It seems like most of the cams available for these engines don't provide significant gains. Some cars benefit from certain mods more than others; part of it has to do with how conservative (a.k.a. stingy) the factory was in this area. It seems like swapping out a set of cams on these engines would be pretty straight forward, so I could live with only gaining 15-20 hp. However, the price makes it completely unreasonable for most of us. I guess if you were right on the edge of an 11 second run (or whatever your personal goal), it would be worth it.:(

Did you do any head work to accent the gains of the cam? I think a nice heavily ported set of heads, 5 angle valve job and a ported s/c would do some wonderful things when a nice big cam is also thrown in the mix. I know it's a totally different car but on my Charger I did port/polish heads and a Comp custom grind cam together and picked up 75hp. |

I know it's a totally different car but on my Charger I did port/polish heads and a Comp custom grind cam together and picked up 75hp. Your Charger - totally different story. Just like a Vette, 'stang, Honda, whatever... each engine design will be more (or less) receptive to an internal change like hotter cams. Unfortunately, our AMG engines seem to fall into the "less receptive" category. |
Re: 2001 SLK32 in the 11's
that's 20 hp with stock parts, add your overdive pulley and ecu tune headers etc... and they will make more power.
I believe the stock amg and srt6 cams are really designed for N/A use, since the superchargers are turned off durring normal city driving. unfortunatly no one has blue-printed the specs for the three or four cams, which are the Stock NA, SRT, AMG, NA Sport cams and the out of production SUpercharged sport cams..

Re: 2001 SLK32 in the 11's
Track elevation? He could be negative sea level. Another thing not so obvious is that international tracks don't run a full 1320'. Most are at the 1000' mark. That's another reason the NHRA is leaning to changing all tracks to 1000'.
In any case it's nice to see someone running the car the way it's suppose to be. |

Re: 2001 SLK32 in the 11's
I have a 10.39 at 1000'......I hope his time is really for the 1/4.....
I am hoping to get to the 11's with my latest mods and drag radials, no bottles. :D MikeR |
Re: 2001 SLK32 in the 11's
The slips say 1/4 mile. I tried finding the track and elevation, but Swedish doesn't translate that well. I don't know what they call their dragstips but couldn't find the right word for Malardalen drag strip. Here is a you tube video. No guard rail, but does look like concrete. Mike you should be there with your mods. If your close just change to a needswings intake.
