VOXX MG 17x8 ET20 with M/T DR's

4 Attachment(s)
I got my new rear wheels and tires last week. VOXX MG 17x8 ET20 and Mickey Thompson ET Street DR's, P275/40R17. Here is what they look like and some notes.

The combination fits on the car very well. There is plenty of room around the brakes. See pics.

You will have to buy shorter lug bolts. The factory bolts protrude through the factory wheel by about .625" and are 1.52" long from the ball seat to the end of the bolt. Putting that bolt in the VOXX wheel they protrude 1.2". Whoa baby..1/2 inch further... that might be a problem says I. I bought ten new 1" bolts. These protrude through the VOXX wheel about .725". Everything works fine now. I took some pics of the rotors to show the holes and threads. I measured the rotor thickness and it is .600" +/- at the hole. Since I was worried about clearance I checked for e-brake and any other parts near the holes. You can see the e-brake through the bolt holes and they look to be at least .250" from the holes. I will do a rotational test before I take it out of the driveway.

If you are thinking of DR's for your car. This looks like a good combination. The wheels are $130 ea. at Discount Tires/Americas Tires and the MT's are $198 ea. I paid $689 out the door for the pair.

no need to comment on my rusty rotors. My car has been sitting still for three weeks.:(

Glad you got them Mike! When I got my Voxx's from Discount Tires, they included the shorter lug bolts.

Everyone speaks of DR's for their cars. Many times I have heard about great Wheel values they have found and how much better they expect et's to be.
Generally when you are getting a great deal on wheels they are HEAVY. If you are really looking to improve your performance don't go with cheap ANYTHING.
Face it heavy wheels and or tires cost Horse Power! I know that you need traction but generally speed costs $. True speed freaks would NEVER trade a few hundreds of a second for style or value.
Do you happen to know the weight?

Re: VOXX MG 17x8 ET20 with M/T DR's

I dont know the weight off hand. I can weigh them when I go home. If I was a true speed freak I would pull the passenger seat and replace the drivers with a light weight race seat along with the lighter weight wheels all around. But I just want to go to the track and have fun. I got these wheels as a balance of getting better traction and now emptying my wallet. I may get new wheels one day, but they wont be for drag racing necessarily. I understand your point.:D

My point isnt for the overall vehical weight it's just a lot easier to turn the lighter weight wheels with lighter rear wheels it's free horse power.:D

Montana I don't know if you have ever picked up a hoosier drag radial, but they are extremely light. The rim weight does have alot to do with it, but just the tire weight savings are a benefit alone.

Re: VOXX MG 17x8 ET20 with M/T DR's

I weighed mine and the tire/wheel combo is 5 lbs less than my stockers, and I have the same as MikeR. Plus add the less rotating mass into the equation from 19" to 17". I think that's a big difference. I've noticed at the track they gave me more room for error. Before when I launched too hard and spun more, I could lose up to 1 whole second. Now when I spin instead of hooking up, I lose the most about 2 tenths because they grab faster. That's a huge difference in my book.

Depends how light you go. There are a lot of guys on the MB forums that spun the crap out of Renntech Monolites with drag radials and ran better times with stock AMG wheels and the same drag radials. Unless you have a true slick, id stay away from ultra light wheels.

The tire and wheel weighs 55 pounds on my bathroom scale. So plus or minus a pound or two. Dont know what the factory wheels and Kumho Ecsta SPT weighs.

Thats not bad. I went with SL wheels and hoosiers on my car. Got the 17"x9" SL wheels from a junkyard in California that specializes in wheels from Benz, BMW and Audi for $95 each shipped. Ill try and find the packing list with the name on it later.

I would be very interested in that vendor. Let me (okay, us) know. I had no luck finding a 17x9 or 17x10.

Ill trade a off a few hp a lighter wheel could have gained anyday for my 60 ft dropping from a 2.0-2.3 down to a 1.6-1.7 or even consistant 1.85's.....and no tire slip switching into second gear.
