cooler air doesn't help that much
I went to the track two weeks ago and it was 51 degrees now in south Fl. that is cold,, I ran 12.40 to 12.53 got in 4 runs,,,, went again last night ,no change to the cart but the temp was 71 degrees, i got in 7 runs i ran 12.53 to 12.68 with 4 of the runs in the 12.5's,, i wanted to know if the cooler weather helped the srt-6 that much no it did not my 60' was 1.83 to 1.89,,, my 1/8 mile was 8.1 to 8.3
I tried to scan the time slips but i just learned my cell phone the computer will have to wait. any way here are the times, nov.19-- 51 degrees---------Dec17--temp 71 degrees------- RT---.151-----------------.140----------------------- 60'---1.812----------------1.843---------------------- 330-- 5.193----------------5.246---------------------- 1/8---7.988----------------8,077--------------------- mph---87.61----------------86.53-------------------- 1000--10.384---------------10.503------------------ 1/4---12.402---------------12.541-------------------- mph---111.11--------------110.23------------------ |
Re: cooler air doesn't help that much
This looks like a meaningful comprison versis the butt-ometer measurments we are exposed to often, is that too often?
Well done and a bit consistant, Woody ENJOY:cool: |

Glad you got things running right. Times are good. I'll call you later.

Do you have a needswings intake? If your filter is not up front then you probably wont get the same effect.

Re: cooler air doesn't help that much
Lower temps definitely help and can make a big difference, but humidity also needs to be considered. Humidity can kill power faster than heat. Also, 71* isn't too bad, but get up into the 80's or 90's and watch your times suffer horribly.

12.40 to 12.53 is pretty signifigant to me, and is more than what the 1.83 to 1.89 60 ft difference would have yielded.
In 100 summer heat do some back to back runs and you can literally watch as the 1/4 miles slow down 1-2 tenths each pass. Cooler air is much better.;) |
Re: cooler air doesn't help that much
While I don't have any numbers I can guarantee that there is a definite seat-of-the-pants difference between 70 degrees and 20!

Re: cooler air doesn't help that much
The colder air will improve results with a true CAI, not to knock your own intake. Just with the NW CAI setup the airflow itself improved results. Now the colder air improved results not by what your thinking, but because of the colder air the DA was probably better. Now the colder air is loved by our cars but you have to be able to suck it in. Hot air and cold air relative to DA definately makes a difference and you should see a significant increase in power in better air. Mine is almost a full second differential between summer and winter. Now just taking off my grill so my NW CAI can breathe a little better increasing my car by a tenth.
Yes get slicks and then we can fairly compare numbers. Also get familiar with getting accurate DA readings when you make good runs. That way if your off by a tenth or more in different passes with the same temps reading on your dash, you can pinpoint it to differences in humidity, barometric pressure, etc. It's easier to say something went wrong, but when it comes down to tenths or thousandths, it simply can be the weather. When you are ready to take the next step, look up a Performaire PA2 from www.biondoracing.com. Most of all have fun and be safe. |
