I/C pumps and air bleeding
 

I have been searching the forum for about an hour and I can't find any posts or threads on bleeding the air out the coolant system after I change
the I/C pump. I am going to attempt this tomorrow and I want to get all the info I can gather about doing this in case I encounter a problem.

Can one of you guys give me a hand?

Waldig - Hey i searched and all I can find is the bussiness about the clamp restricting flow for 15 min. I need a little more info than that. You have a reference to other posts but i can't find them. i am at work I don't have much time to be reading all the posts can you you throw me a bone here?

Calxfire - Thanks this clears things up a bit. Since I am installing the new pump, I think I am going to go the external 12volt source to run the pump with the hose clamp on while watching the resevoir until no more bubbles. Now I just have to make sure I clamp the right hose.

I am a little confused by the diagrams and Woody's extra hose. Where is it plumbed to and if you can just purge it through the resevoir why the clear hose contraption? It looks like the E55 has an actual nipple on a seperate line to perform this task, but I think there is an entirely different coolant tank system on that engine if I am not mistaken.

Just an FYI....I changed my Pump out over a year ago and actually installed a new Heat Exchanger this week. I did not bleed the system either time. I am willing to bet that besides Waldig, 90% of the people on this forum did not bleed the system after changing the pump. I have had no "ill" effects.

I changed my pump and HE and DID do the purge as Woody described. Was no big problem. Oh, I seperated the IC cooling from the radiator too at the same time.

Well the peer pressure got to me.....I finally performed this last night. I cant tell if it worked yet....but I know it could not hurt.
