Do it yourself DIY Belt Wrap Kit for less than $25
Do it yourself DIY Belt Wrap Kit for less than $25
There's been some interest in my DIY Belt Wrap kit so here goes.
PARTS LIST
1 - Idler Pulley, NP 1202000470 (same as supercharger idler pulley)
PROCESS
1. Release tension on the belt.
2. Remove the supercharger idler pulley including the bracket.
3. Route the belt under the pulley and reinstall pulley and bracket.
4. Put washer on new bolt, slide bolt through new pulley and mount it in the existing hole just above the upper alternator bolt.
5. Attach nut and tighten. May be tricky due to clearance. I used a magnet to hold the nut in place to get it started.
6. Route belt over this pulley.
7. Reapply tension to the belt.
8. Check everything first then start car and check everything again.
9. TAA-DAA!!! (as Professor Woody would say) yer done!
__________________________________________________ _________________
I've had this on for over 700 miles so far and it WORKS! Yes you may see lines on the flat side of the belt where the belt rides on the ribbed side of the pulley but it is NOT wearing into the belt.
If someone can come up with a part number for a smooth pulley that would be GREAT! I used what I had on hand thus the ribbed pulley.
NOTE: This install works with MY combination of the Code 3 pulley and the 181 Crank pulley using the stock length belt. Your application may require a longer or shorter belt. Works perfect for my application. Not responsible for damage, loss of life or limb, for off road use only, ya-da, ya-da, ya-da.
Saves ya about $175 worth a try. Hope it works for you!

Re: Do it yerself DIY Belt Wrap Kit for less than $25
wow that is simple as can be, good stuff man.
what length bolt did you use, in your writeup you just say it is MM long.
I found several "ebay" pulleys that are smooth not grooved that may work.
Thanks for the info though, I am going to do mine!
What is the size of the idler pulley you used? If you have that then it shouldn't be too difficult to find a smooth pulley somewhere.
also, can you circle the pulley you removed then circle the pulle/bracket you replaced it with so it is clearer what you moved/replaced?

i just ran out and looked under the hood and i do see how well your fix would work. i am not sure if i need to swap mine but i grabbed my stock one out of the garage and will take it to the part store today to see if i can find a smaller smooth pulley that will work. if i do i will be sure to post up the part number and price for it.
thanks

I went through every pulley box at the local Autozone and could not find a similar smooth pulley.

i do not see how it would hurt the belt either but i will see what i can find.
on the extra pulley you bolted on, without going outside again (im lazy lol) is there a stock pulley there or is there just an empty bolt hole that you stuck the spare pulley on?
also, you have the much smaller than stock idler pulley since you have the crank pulley so i assume the code3 guys will need to buy 2 pulleys (which is no big deal) to do this mod or the belt will rub up against itself due to the larger idler pulley
Thanks
