Any experience RACING Honda S-2000's ?
I am being "goated" into racing Honda S-2000 maniacs, at the Texas Motor Speedway, with my SRT-6. I know the S-2000 is a great track car even though the specs on the car aren't impressive. According to the Honda maniacs - they beat Vipers and Corvetts on the track. I can believe the Viper but the Vett has great traction control. The open track day is in October and I have S-2000s gunning for my SRT-6. There is way too much trash talk going on. It all makes me want to transform into a professional driver with a modified SRT-6. It would be a great way to spoil their S-2000 love fest day at the track. Even though I didn't start the trash talk I admit to jabs at the S-2000. and all things HONDA.
Does anyone have experience with S-2000s on a track like Texas Motor Speedway. If so, need your advice. Not showing up may be the best advice you can give. Thanks. |

Texas Motor Speedway open track day? I am in the Dallas area and have not heard of such. I will be glad and come out to SMOKE that S-2000 if you would like.

About The Scion Drag-n-Brag - Scion Drag-N-Brag - Texas Motor Speedway I don't think they have time clocks. |
Re: Any experience RACING Honda S-2000's ?
The bad news is - I already have my wires crossed. It is the Texas World Speedway at College Station. If you want to race S-2000s there will be a group of them there July 25/26. Let me know because I would love to watch. You can go to their website for more details TWS July 25, 26 -- Going? - S2000 Club of America Forums.
The event I am being goated into is in October at the same track. It is considered a training event. See details at The Drivers Edge. My SRT-6 is stock and I drive slow everywhere I go. To say I am out-of-my league is an understatement. Only a superior car could save me - hence my question about the S2000. I feel it is my responsibility not to embarass my car with my poor driving skills. |

Re: Any experience RACING Honda S-2000's ?
I'm assuming the Honda is prepped for the track. It really depends on if the track suits him or you. I would guess he would be much better in the corners and slightly better under braking. You will kill him on the straights. Unless the track is mostly slow corners you should be close overall. Before changing my car I was about the fastest thing on the straights but among the slowest in the real tight turns. What made the most difference on my car was Koni's. You can dial out a lot of the understeer which will make you much faster in the corners. Find a track somewhere and practice to learn the limits of your car and have a good time doing it. My trial and error indicates that you will need to run at least 5lbs. more air pressure in the front tires than the rear. The rear can go pretty low. 30 lbs. or so. I like 35 myself. I found 42 lbs. in the front works good for me. Some say it's way too much but it's working.
Oh, I passed 2 Corvette Z06's at the track and was dogging a M3 so close that he lost it in one of the high speed turns. So don't worry about the Honda's passing Vettes. They were most likely driving with instructors or learning their new toy. Les |

Shame it's in Texas and I'm in PA. I'd love to give them a run for their money.

Re: Any experience RACING Honda S-2000's ?
Good advice. I definitely need to learn my car before entering a competitive situation. I need time before high noon at the track. A few mods wouldn't hurt either. Koni shocks are a good idea.

Re: Any experience RACING Honda S-2000's ?
if you are not an experienced driver, you will have to rely on pulling him on the straights. i've seen a lot of corvettes do that out here. they can't keep up in the twisties, so they use their muscle to pull ahead in the straights. i'm not familiar with that track, and there's just so many factors involved.
-weight reductions? -driver experience -driver weight -type of tires -suspension -lots of straights? any? -blown S2000 or NA? my buddy has an NA S2000 with about every bolt-on imaginable, and i kill him from a roll and from a dig every time. sounds like fun though! |

Re: Any experience RACING Honda S-2000's ?
s200o only comes as a stick. 4 cylinder engine stock about 240 hp. should be no issue on the straights. even the corners i believe you will keep up. theres a guy in my town with a blower on his and he still only pushing 330 hp. not much you can do to the s2000 motor. its tweaked about as tight as you can get it from stock oh yes really good brakes on the s2000! he may push farther into the corners

Re: Any experience RACING Honda S-2000's ?
At out last autocross the s2000 was the lowest (fastest) time of the day. Beat all; ME, vetts, and a porsche who happened to be the course designer that day..........They handle - dont get too big in the shop talk. Woody

Re: Any experience RACING Honda S-2000's ?
Get a pulley, CAI, cooling mods, koni shocks and some springs and kick some butt.
If you cant drive, well then, there is no hope LOL |
Re: Any experience RACING Honda S-2000's ?
I can make that event and I have raced on that track plenty of times.. I could come out and show them a thing or two. Now don't get me wrong, I know those s2000's are quick around the track. But that track is a fast track lots of straits. Witch does not help them at all.

Re: Any experience RACING Honda S-2000's ?
I will check the times to verify when they will be there.

Re: Any experience RACING Honda S-2000's ?
I don't want you to get the idea that the X-fire is slow stock because its not. The brakes are real strong and the power too. But my first track experience I finished in the middle of the pack. The organizers were real impressed with my time with a 100% stock car. (so what) Then I started looking at the other cars. Brembo's or Stopteck's on all of them. Coilovers, strut tower braces. Adjustable camber plates. Aftermarket swaybars, Toyo's, Hoosiers, Pilot Sport Cup tires. Your Honda may have it all. If it's a fast track and have the courage to brake at the last moment you can hang with them. (IMO) To give you an idea of how important the curves are .... one guy here has a Sentra with fully adjustable suspension and Toyo's and he ran a touch faster than I did. 4 banger and automatic but it cornered unreal. It was at a track that's all sharp corners but you get the picture. He wouldn't have a prayer anywhere else. The track layout is a major factor as well as your risk tolerance. The real reason to go is to have fun and learn. Even if you are slower, I'll bet your earn respect for yourself and the SRT-6.
Les PS: ACRucrazy, thanks for the Koni's. They make a huge positive difference. |
Re: Any experience RACING Honda S-2000's ?
You have the right idea. I want to learn and have fun. If I go to the track it will be for those reasons only. I am not competitive by nature so it spoils my fun when the trash talk and grudge match stuff gets going. Plus, I am really over protective of my car and the idea of approaching a curve fast and hitting the brakes hard at the last second; just doesn't appeal to me. Why should I enter their territory anyway? They have track experience and I don't.
If a S-2000 wants to pull up beside me and give me a run; I will accomodate (briefly) - even at my own risk. Texas is a police state - I have never seen half as many highway patrol anywhere else I have lived. Flordia is second but not a close second. Texas is also swarming with local law enforcement. Even the Constable has multile patrol cars banking on some fool like me. I am not saying I have a constitutional right to speed but it sure is a reminder of excessive government control of our lives. |

Do you live in College Station? Let me know so I can add you to the Texas Xfire owners list: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...mber-list.html
