Air Inlet, we'll call these the devil horns

1 Attachment(s)
we mocked these up for a customer running a sl55 box that wanted to plumb in cold air to the boxes. he already has the aluminum snorkle tubes from tvt to connect to these so his air WILL be filtered in the engine bay thru the sl55 airbox. the picture doesnt do the setup justice as it looks very very mean in person.

these same pieces could be used on our cai setup like shown below but you would be taking a very risky chance on sucking anything in (neighborhood birds) and it would surely be a run at your own risk scenario at the track if anyone wanted.

just take the filters off...put some old fashion door screen over the ends, fasten with a hose clamp...and there you go, "good ole' boy" racin' at its best....LOL

just pulling the filter off the cai kit reduces flow, we have seen that on the flow bench. we need the smooth rounded opening for the airflow to increase

Thanks to NeedsWings and TVT for supplying the parts I needed to create the SL55 Hybrid Intake:D .

Two factors played a role in upgrading the SL55 intake, cost and inlet location. I would have liked to purchase the Dual Intake from NeedsWings but that would have significantly increased my intake expense. So, I opted to improve upon the SL55 setup I already have. TVT already did the leg work on the tubes and Needswings improved my rendition of inlets.

Thanks to both companies for helping create the SL55 Hybrid Intake:D .

Now the pressure is on, I smell 11's :p.

so wait do these reduce airflow or help it? by that i mean, is this more efficient than using filters on the CAI or would this only help on the sl55 kit because the filters are set behind it

How much for this?

any fotos of the tubes going into the 55 boxes?

They will increase air flow into the SL55. This is done by having a smoother passage way and relocating the inlets along side of the center bumper supports, into the air flow stream.

I haven’t taken any yet but in the mean time they can be seen on the TVT website.

thanks! id like to see the difference in flow between the stock and this.

This is a form of ram-air to feed the motor, being in front of the radiator is a bit of a high pressure area, better and cooler than behind it anyway. Should be able to see a gain but NOT ON A DYNO as you have no dynamic air motion-----stick your hand out the window at 50 MPH to feel the air pressure "force".

I have been needing to actually measure the pressure gain, Idd try to get to doing that, though it will be only an inch or two of water column pressure.

First thought for me is the phrase " Bird Strike":p :p

He was trying to explain these to me over the phone and I couldn't understand what he was talking about. Very nice job Rob, shoot me a price and I'll move a bunch of these to my SL55/E55 customers.

I'd be really worried about FODing the supercharger. For those non aviation types out there, Foreign Object Damage. At the speeds those lobes are moving in that housing, and the tight clearances inside these units, even something small would dent your wallet pretty thoroughly!

Re: Air Inlet, we'll call these the devil horns

Somebody needs to invent a horn with fine mesh for the FOD, and an electrostatic filter for the crud. Cold, free air - with velocity. Natures turbocharger.

this should be a non issue. this design is mainly for use with the stock airboxes or the sl55 airboxes which both can use k&n filters. the oem setup has tubes running thru the rad support. this is a bigger upgrade and no fod issues unless you are running without filters.

That's different. I must have misunderstood the "run at your own risk" note. Sounded like he was going right into the supercharger with them. It even looked like it if you're not familiar with the SRT-6 engine. They do look mean!

that was were he was discussing running them at the track or on the needswings dual cai. definately dangerous!.
