Default Repainting a black SRT-6 coupe

Good morning Ladies and Gentleman,
Happy first day of Winter!
With the coupe resting for the next 3-4 months thoughts of course are of what to do when I take it out of hibernation.
I would like to repaint the car as it has several noticable stone chips and swirls marks.
The questions are; Will repainting the car lower the value?( As automatically people suspect previous body damage under a repaint) Should I stick with the original paint? (Which I have been told is a thin expensive MB specific color) Could I go with a "Black Rose" or some other trick paint sticking with a base black, and not detract from the cars value?
I know with all the technical discussions going on at this site this is a pretty mundane subject but your opinions are valued.
Thanks,
mark

I would have a good detailer check the car over. Swirls can be corrected and a really good painter/detailer can do a lot of cut in work or reshoot the hood to match up. In the end you still have the orginal paint and it should look good.

I'd do a color change myself.
Could only boost the cars value.

Repainting the hood will not devalue your car.Black is the cheapest of all colors To repair your hood you have to feather edge the chips out, fill with three coats of primer, scuff hood with ultra fine sand paper, blend in black paint over primer then clearcoat entire hood.Supplies would cost about $125.00 with enough material to do another panel.Labor to paint hood arond 4.5 hours.Body shops in MA. get about $38.00 an hour.Painting a Mercedes or a Kia ,it is all the same.

if i were looking for an srt6 id ask why it had been repainted and if you had a convincing answer id be cool with it. however i have rarely ever seen a paintjob as good as factory. the ones that are cost like $5k...those are the guys that take the time to remove everything and paint behind it...etc

might be a cool idea to change the color to offer something different if you ever sell it. how about white?

If you go away from black you have to do a lot of work to pull the panels, and do all the areas like the hood that really add up.

If you want a nother color, buy one that way and avoid all the grief associated with changing colors. My thoughts after doing a few myself.

Pay someone else, better get a price first and see TWO of their car paint jobs to see the edges, trim. FOrget the big panels look behind the curtain and little man with the green glasses. OZ.

I completely agree. Though if I went with white I would probably go with BMW's Alpine White or some sort of Matte White.
