Maybe it's time to change tranny fluid?

My car seems to be shifting late when I put the pedal down all the way lately and it is in auto, goes to red line stays then there is no pull for a couple seconds then it shoots to the other gear and pulls like a beast.also how do I know if the w/s button is working properly and can it have any effect.is it possible for my car to somehow be staying in manual mode even though it says (D) by the way 66000+ miles on it my daily driver no serious problems

Hi, Raz!
Well, I can tell you that both of my Xfires were doing the exact same thing a while back - especially when cold. I had the tranny fluid replaced in both & voila', problem no more!

Interesting...I may have to change out the tranny fluid soon then. Can't hurt that's for sure. I know they say with the AMGs once you change the tranny fluid you are set for life.

Oh....forgot, both cars are over 75K so I figured what the heck; they're both due for a fluid change soon, no harm in getting it done.

I've got the tranny leak but I'll be having the shop do it. It'll be interesting to see if the shifting points change at all after the fluid change.

Sorry here, Raz - I've been AWOL of late....

I can't say - I'm sure there are some with the ability to do so but, from what I've heard, it's a pain to perform. I just punted & had the dealership do it. The place where I took it has done me well in the past & they do not try to steal me blind. About $150, if I remember correctly, so not too godawful terrible.

i did the flush. simple handtools and a couple pans for fluid and the parts your set.
remove the drain plug and drain the pan
remove the pan bolts and pan and filter (filter just pulls off the spout)
clean the pan and inspect and clean the magnet. (reinstall the magnet in the pan!)
place new filter on spout and reinstall the pan with new rubber gasket. (bolts dont need to be jammed tight just snugged up firmly so the seal isnt pinched)
fill with 4 qts new fluid
disconnect the metal to rubber line that runs along the engine oil pan
put the line in a jug (1 gal) and start the car put it in each gear for 2 to3 secs. each. this will drain most of the oil out of the torque convertor.
reconnect the line and fill the trans to the proper level.
an infrared temp gage is recommended for ensuring the trans is up to operating temps, check level.
you will need a new locking clip for the trans tube as they are 1 time use. you also need the trans dipstick tool or make 1. (see woody's thread for the tool)
HAVE A BEER YOUR DONE!!
usual legal spooge.... not responsible for death, dismemberment yada..yada..yada...
