Default Unintended trip through the Dragon

So, I was trying to route a trip up to my old High School for a 30 year
reunion and having a beast of a time with the stock Nav system. Every time I tried to route through from my home in Metro Atlanta to the school
(located in the SW tip of Virginia), the computer kept spitting out routes
up the I-75 or I-85 routes.

So, I decided to just program in several way points as I moved north. I
plotted my first course up to Robbinsville, Nc, and from there up to Boone,
then Crumpler and finally to Mouth of Wilson, Va., each in turn as I arrived
at the previous set destination. And, this worked rather well. However,
the return trip was a little differnt.

I used the same strategy, but in reverse order. Having previously saved a destination address for my home, when I got to Robbinsville, I selected that and told the Nav to start. Followed the first direction to turn, and it seemed right, so when I got the next turn instruction I blindly followed, and found it had turned me onto route 129 North, up the dragon headed for
I-75 in Tennessee. I started to curse the Nav system, as this would add at least 2 hours to my trip. But before I had hit the first intersecting street, I had decided to go along with the Nav. The dragon had me.

I was having a blast heading up towards the Tennessee line, and then got into the real twisties towards the north end of the Dragon. Just as I was getting into this, I caught up with a BWM 328i. Shoot, when I say "caught up" I should say nearly crashed into his slow poke, granny driving butt. I
could see him looking back in his side view mirror and saying all kinds of mean things about the car crowding him from behind.

He picked up the speed a little, and the driving was fun, but I could have gone a bit faster and pushed him until he bailed at the parking area at the
end. I was headed home, so I kept on going. Funny though, I picked up
a Tennesse State trooper there who followed me for several miles before turning off. I kept to the speed limit, and gave him no cause.

And, just so I don't come off as a total a**hole for pushing the Bimmer
through the twisties, the speed limit is 30 mph, and he never got to it. I
had fun, though, dropping back a little then pushing through the corners
to catch up to him. I hope I didn't ruin his pleasant drive through the
Dragon

But, the point of the story is... I think the car was missing the Dragon, and
took the opportunity to take a run by conscripting the Nav unit to give me a bogus instruction. I sure love my car...

Thanks guys. A run through the Dragon can always ease your mind...

And, Eric, if you are interested, you being in Agusta and me in Kennesaw, perhaps we could meet up on the Dragon on a Saturday, and have a nice
little run. Sure would help with easing that ache...

I miss the Dragon as well.

When Gary said he was cutting it down to only the fall run and no Spring, I almost shed a tear

Hey Man, I wouldn't worry a bit about the GTG. Just book a room anytime
you want, and you can drive the Dragon all day, instead of spending a lot
of time a BBQs, Photo Ops and other things that go on at a GTG. Much
more fun, in my opinion...

I'll be there in the spring with my X-Fire if I'm there by myself. Five of us showed up the weekend before last and had a great time

My drive is a little farther than yours, but I am game.

Coyote echoed my sentiments exactly though, I am going to get some other friends, not necessarily XF drivers, to come and beat on the mountain. I saw some pretty nice cabins around there to rent as well. I think this is the way to go....
