Intercooler Pump Questions
I bought a new to me SRT6 that is stock, and still running the stock intercooler pump at almost 40,000 miles.
I want to change the intercooler pump now instead of waiting for it to go out.
I've searched the forum for all the information on the pump, and it's obviously a really easy swap.
But is there a consensus on what pump to use?
Stock Bosch?
Johnson, but if so, which one (I found two)?
The Ford Lightning pump?
I'm inclined to go with the stock Bosch, only because I know it will work (and I don't even find the Johnson on the Needswings website). There is a lot of information out there on the other two options, but I couldn't find any solid answers or data on them.
If I missed something and this has been covered, I'd appreciate a link to the thread and I'll continue reading.

Like I said above, I'm inclined just to use a Bosch replacement.
However, looking at this: Bosch Intercooler Fluid Pump
it looks like it's not exactly plug and play by looking at the wiring harness. Will I need to splice wires? Not that that is a problem, but I'm surprised if that is the case.

Thanks for the quick responses, which seem to confirm my search results that there really is no answer. Given they all seem to have similar fail rates, the logical choice seems to go with the cheapest solution in a Bosch replacement.
Is there a plug and play solution, or do they all require splicing the wiring harness? I'm just trying to put my parts list together.

Well that was easy. The hardest part was finding the "hidden" nut on the splash guard.
My soldering skills are also non-existent but I think it will hold.
I am surprised that no one makes a truly bolt-on replacement connector, and that you are required to splice wires though. I'm also surprised that the new pump (which I think is the Ford Lightning pump) is all plastic, while the stock pump's rotating assembly was cast aluminum. Based on that, I suspect the replacement pump will not last as long as the stock pump. But, time will tell.
In any event, my old pump was obviously intermittent and going out, which I suspected. It's nice to have power every time I step on the pedal now.

yes sir....pumps are a power grabber when they don't function. The roadster/coupe are both getting their new pumps very soon. Roadster a CM 30, and the coupe will get one from Rob, asa I order it. Got to get the rearend done first....lol...then back up front for some changes, then underneath, as it just never ends what you can do to these cars.

If I'm not mistaken the new Bosch replacement pumps corrected the failures of the previous generation and are now durable and the flow is improved. This is what I've gathered from a Benz forum. I don't know this for a fact however. I'm personally debating between the Bosch pump and the Johnson. I don't know which is better for our application but in Rob we trust, right?

yep....he wouldn't sell junk....besides....everyone should keep a spare around...mine has sat on the shelf long enough, and I will keep a spare...I'm hope to tear into the roadster yet this week...I'm having the bumper cover repainted...rock chips...I have roll bars to install on it as well....taking the old roll bars and putting them into the coupe. The coupe is getting a lot work done as well, but that will be at the shop where we will do the LSD install. Lots to do before Woodward and the Dragon...but again....I think any of the pumps will do a good job for you...now if you had a super cooler like DJ and some others, the johnson would be the preferred pump because of volume and flow...
I'm debating between replacing the pump myself or having the dealership do it. I hear it's an easy thing to do, but I'd feel a lot more confident if I knew ahead of time what would need to be done. I assume the pumps come with instructions, but is there anywhere I can find those instructions online so I can see what I'm getting into?

trust me do it yourself, i am by no means a car guy and i was able to do this without any real trouble. i believe the dealship wanted about $700 when i asked for a quote when mine failed 2 weeks after the car was off warrantee. I went with the Johnson and found it online for 140 shipped.
