Default Smashed door ):

Well...the worse has happened. Visiting my girlfriends family earlier today and they accidentally backed into the srt. Door is smashed completely in, but all the damage appeared to be isolated to just the door and the window busted. I am waiting on their insurance to go out and inspect the car. Took a great while to explain to them on the phone the difference in an srt. Now anxiously waiting a call from their insurance to get the word, and also have been Walton for a job I really have wanted. This is going to be one awful wait. Trying to post pictures for you guys soon.

If they go with all new parts you're looking at $3k in damages. I just replaced a drivers door that was hit the same but took out the pillar and fender as well on a local crossfire and the door shell alone was $1300 from the stealership and the glass was on back order.

Ouch. That's ashame but if it's isolated to the door, that is a good thing. Also, Black is easiest to match, so paint integration look good.

I guess your girl friend owes you big.....

I actually live in Lima and Indian Lake so I am very close to Columbus. The incident actuall occured outside of Urbana. I appreciate the offer and I may take advantage of it. I have a shop I always use so I will approach them first. Hopefully damage is just the door. Soon to find out.

~ feel free to pm me...

the body shop i recommend had to put a new door skin on my crossfire (insurance company wouldn't cover the cost of a complete new door)... and the end result was like new. i have pics of the process to share at your request.

Wow! I guess they really go fast backwards. Some shops are more like miracle workers than body shops and I hope you find one of those. Good luck.

arent the srt6 door and the base the same? if it is isolated to just he door couldnt you get one used? id think that would be the way too go. seems like a lot of these get parted out and being black, id think that would make it even easier. just attach a few wires and blots, all done!

I missed this thread earlier. I am having mine repaired with just the skin...the skin was $330. But, since I have aero blue, you have to paint the whole side of the car to blend the paint in...$1735 total. They may, or may not have to do that with black. Good luck, makes you sick though, doesn't it?

Thanks Jimmie, they do good work, but the car will never be the same to me...this one was spotless, no flaws until now...I will get over it in time, but still peeves me off....to think about it...

I feel your pain, Doc. I want to replace the driver's side skin, even though the car shows a clean carfax, because it was once repaired with filler. Little things my Pops and I noticed doing a walk around the car. Thankfully for me, Pops and G-Pops are paint and collision experts with their own shop. The repair and repaint will only cost me parts, plus a little heavy lifting, I'm sure! The only downside will be heading out to the sticks for a few days of no traffic lights or civilization, and some hardcore fishing and scalloping. Maybe that trip isn't as bad as I'm making it out to be.....................

I had to replace the passenger door on my SRT and the door came with the glass and was $700. It was already black so the internal parts did not need touching up. I would go this route.

Remember that the driver door has the car info listed.

Good luck!

I tried that Randy...but couldn't find an aero blue one...and the prices were higher than that for me... It is my passenger door, so no problems there...hope to have it back this weekend if the skin came in today... Anyway, it hurts to see them crashed into, but, I'll get over that fact in time, but the hit and run part....that may take awhile...

the good thing about a driver door skin replacement... you are able to retain the original vin decal inside the door jamb... these can not be reproduced (like the old days).

here are some pics of the high quality skin replacement during the process... note the factory looking seam... also be certain they paint up to the oem rubber weather seal to hide the paint/tape line.

hope this helps.
