Need a new Water Pump?
Took the car in to have the idler pulley replaced and because I noticed a mystery fluid. The mechanic just called me back and said the water pump needs to be replaced. He said the part is $500+ from the Chrysler or $300+ from Mercedes plus 3 hours of intensive labor.
Are there any aftermarket options? Can someone confirm this isn’t a DIY job?

Almost as expensive will be the coolant replacement, but you probably needed to do that anyway.
I'd estimate this as a 3-4 hour DIY, assuming you have a set of female Torx sockets.
Hint : remove the fan first - easy to do.
I would do it myself if the problem ever surfaced on mine,,, I checked all the front components water pump, thermostat, pullies, etc while installing my Oil pressure sensor , and it didn;t look all that intensive to me , IMO..
Once you remove the fan its all right there ,,,

Depending on your mechanical skills, it could easily be a DIY job.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I want to confirm that this is for the SRT6 water pump. I saw a few threads saying the only water pumps that fit were the Mercedes and Chrysler pumps. When I called Advanced Auto they said the pump was manufactured by GMB? Can anyone confirm it’s the right part?

worth mentioning, this pump (used both on the crossfire and some Mercedes models) was produced with and without a seemingly unnecessary (unused) mounting boss. Unused that is until you go to install the needswings pulley saver kit.
In other words, if you have any plans of installing the needswings pulley saver kit in the future, make sure you get the version that has the (otherwise) unused (upper) mounting boss cast into it.
the first picture is the "without" style , the second is the "with" style

Changing a water pump on any car is messy. After doing one, on any car, it's just messy and time consuming. Crossfires have more hoses than most so, more mess than usual. You could always buy from Rob at Needwings if your nervous about getting the correct pump.

My research puts these numbers to the water pump.
Water Pump - NA - two outlets.
Mercedes part#112 200 15 01
Chrysler part# 05097159AC
Bosch part# 99176
Water Pump - SRT6 - three outlets.
Mercedes part#112 200 13 01
Chrysler part# 05102894AA
I got a Bosch part for $75 for the NA.
The SRT-6 pump is about $75 more than the NA one.
The parts list does name spares, the seal and impeller, to rebuild the pumps, but may be more hassle than it's worth. The bearings would be normal off the shelf items.

Water pump replacement 101
1 use your digital camera to photo the layout lots of shots to make it easy to remember.
Get a new belt too and check pulley idlers
2. Bolt length varies keep track, I numbered them with a marker
3.There is one lower bolt that is not visible easily - you have been told
4. Lots of screws, not an issue, just take time, make it two day project and dont stress it out.
5. check and start ALL bolts before tightning any of them, slow and even.
6. Dont tighten too much it aluminum dummy
7. Save big, took me 2 - 3 hours, did it several times, just keep notes and pay attention to the above.
8. Enjoy
