Default Smog Equipment Not Needed in MA

Hi,

Just purchased a 2005 srt-6 coupe here in Ma. The car has spent its entire life in CA.(63k) I would think there is Smog equipment which being from the East coast I am not familiar with. I searched the srt-6 forum and did not see mention of Smog removal. Could someone point me in the right direction. Will I benefit from removing the Smog equipment ? What impact will removal have on the cars performance. Thanks in advance! John

I'm not sure what the rules are where you live but some places make it a rule that any smog equipment on a car cannot be removed. It might not work but it cannot be taken off.

Be careful with vehicles originally from cali to a different state. I have ran into problems before, that the computer is even programmed different for added emissions control. Check and see if your car was originally sold at as CA dealership and if it was, when u have to take it to a shop to fix a problem you can not figure out make sure you tell them that your car is or think it is a original cali car.

Your vehicle can not have the parts disconnected and still pass yearly emissions testing. Only vehicles from California or Ma. are allowed, (unless used with over 7000 miles) to be registered here. We are the second worse state in the country for vehicle emissions laws.

Thanks for the post Phil. I did a little digging also and looks like 15 years is the number. After 15 years old the car is no longer subject to the emissions requirements. Have to love Ma... lol Figure we will go needs wings stage 1, and the tweaked stock intakes and keep it at that. Should be enough vrrrroooommm for us.

I thought New England requirements were the same as CA.

From Wiki:
states may choose to follow either the national standard or the stricter California standards. States adopting the California standards include http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arizona (2012 model year),http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_emission_standards#cite_note-1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connecticut, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maine, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maryland, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massachusetts, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Jersey, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Mexico (2011 model year), http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennsylvania, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhode_Island, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermont, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_%28U.S._state%29, as well as the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington,_D.C..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_emission_standards#cite_note-Reuters20090630-2http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_emission_standards#cite_note-3 Such states are frequently referred to as "CARB states" in automotive discussions because the regulations are defined by the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Air_Resources_Board

Yup. 15 years is the cut off right now. There is a new program coming soon though. Not sure what will happen as we just started the process.
Yes, arcjohn Ma. Follows Ca. Not sure of the other states. I don't work for them.

You can do lots of mods as long as it doesn't mess with the obd readings.
