Interior lights won't work when doors open

If I have the buttom pushed or not they dont work upon door opening or unlocking of doors. They work when I push the button to turn them on but not when I open doors.

Not to be try to be Captain Obvious, but do u have the black slide (in between driver side light and passenger side light) slid over to the option to keep them off upon opening the doors! This while still allow u to manually turn them on, but they won't come on when opening doors or locking/unlocking doors.

Two positions I think, Auto On and Off.
Slide toward driver is Off.
Slide away from driver is Auto On.

While working on my central locking unit in the trunk that got water in it by a leak it affected my interior lights. If unplugged no lights would come on for doors but still worked in manual and locks acted up. Check for water under foam in passenger side trunk.

Yes - this is a common problem with the Mercedes R170 models...SLK230/320 and 32.
I replaced the central locking pump in my SLK230 after months of trying to fix the old one.
Couldn't find one for <$500 though...pretty exxie.

Not sure its much of a problem with the SRT's though. For the mercs, they eventually lengthened the yellow tubes and turned the unit upside down so water didn't accumulate in the bottom where the circuit board is.
some pics here.

Not to say it is the problem you have - but it is very common and worth checking. Its not a major job to check.

Or the unit was placed in a sturdy plastic bag, with no holes in it and not sealed up.

hhmmm...I don't recall the sealed bag was the end solution....'cause the pump's gotta pump air to (and from) the latches...the pump needs to suck/push....hence I think the bag idea led to condensation/sweating...which was one water source..
..the other was water used to run down the filler cap yellow pneumatic hose onto/into the unit and..
.. if you didn't/don't keep your rear gutter drains clear (SLKxxx), water may enter the trunk/boot...run down to the trunk floor and then sit and sweat+cause more condensation around the foam box hosing the PSE (the pump unit we are talking about)....etc...etc...

after thought....I just re-read your "not sealed up comment" I get you...
