Oil Catch Can Q's
Bought the Needswings Oil catch can about a month or so ago when I got their intake. I have yet to install it. The throttle body has to come off correct? Would it be a good idea to replace the throttle body gasket? Anything else to replace while I have the throttle body off and such? Part number for a SRT-6 throttle body gasket? I want to make sure it doesn't have boost leaks too.
I was just checking out my catch can and noticed some fine metal shavings come out of the top. Fine as in like a powder. There is a small pile of it. Glad it came out, I would hate for my motor to ingest that. I am guessing it is from when they drilled the hole on the top? Thanks! |
Re: Oil Catch Can Q's
Didn't need to remove the throttle body for installation on my NA, don't see why you need to on your SRT6 either.

NeedsWings Crossfire Oil Catch Can Install
EDIT: ^^^ OLD HOW-TO proper one listed below by me I guess it doesn't need to be taken off. I just see the "T" connects to the throttle body on the bottom. How about removing the intake manifold as directed? Would it be a good idea to do so for a new gasket to fix any possible boost leaks? |
Re: Oil Catch Can Q's
Rob installed mine in the Courtyard Marriott parking lot without removing the intake manifolds.

Re: Oil Catch Can Q's
Right on, thanks. I checked the online service manual and I guess to see if the intake manifold is leaking all you have to do is spray a small stream of water with a spray bottle around the cover. If RPM's change, you have a leak. (Page 2870 on the PDF. intake manifold bolt torque is 15ft lbs or 20 NM)
Looks like I am over thinking this catch can install and its easier then expected on these cars. |
Re: Oil Catch Can Q's
I'm about to install one myself. if you or anyone has clear pics of the install please share....following.

Re: Oil Catch Can Q's
leave tb on the car, should take ya 20 minutes to connect the 3 lines. did you get the install document pdf that was in your tracking number email?
|
Re: Oil Catch Can Q's
Yes I did. I posted the link above. Prior to what others are saying, the intake manifold needs to come off to get the new throttle body T on. I am guessing they are people with the base model cars. There is a horrible bracket, and hard lines all over the place. I am sure it could be finessed and attached, but I want it on there good. I don't want a horrible vacuum leak. Loading pictures now of my install. I need a T-30 for the intake manifold bolts and need to order a new IM gasket. So car will be down for a while.

Re: Oil Catch Can Q's
if you just remove the lower 2 bolts to the tb you can remove the bracket and then slide the vacuum port down and off, then do the connections on the bench and then reinstall onto motor.
the link you posted above is old and outdated, please check the pdf link in your tracking number email |

Here is the new link, took some searching in my mail folder, it is different THANKS!: Wish that other one wasn't floating around
http://www.needswings.com/InstallDocs/ccic.pdf Way better how-to with more information. Will for sure get it done now. I see the TB bolts do have to come out. I just need to get some proper Torx sockets for this. TB bolts are 15ft lbs or 20 NM FYI. this is where I left off for the day: Attachment 40058 Attachment 40059 Attachment 40060 I pulled that out from the passenger side. You have to force it out. It is a VERY tight fit. Another idea on how tight it is in there: Attachment 40061 |
Re: Oil Catch Can Q's
the old link is no longer any good, I removed it from the server

Re: Oil Catch Can Q's
I can still click on it and it works. Updated my previous posts.

So had a little time to work on it. Got the TB off. Forgot which way the T goes in. Referring to the nipple that sticks out in front of the TB blade going to the supercharger
A: Attachment 40054 B: Attachment 40055 Notice how its angled: Attachment 40056 (I know the cap goes on the passenger side, so that does not need to reflect which way it goes since I am not sure if I spun it around.) |

Notice how its angled: http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/...pspkbpnnra.jpg (I know the cap goes on the passenger side, so that does not need to reflect which way it goes since I am not sure if I spun it around.) It goes in such that the air rushing by hits the long end first, by that I mean the back cut face is down. This will create a lesser air pressure toward the engine, the so called vacuum. The face you have shown facing up will face down. By coincidence I came in from cleaning out the catch can and read this post. |
