Y Pipe for intake

Anybody know where I can get a Y pipe to build a CAI. I believe it needs to be 3" dia. at all 3 opening, all of the ones I see are 3.5"
Something like this for the Y pipe, yes the rest of the piping will go all the way to the grill.
Mostly for a little performance but will not be drag racing, and for looks.

Check with rob at needswings and see if he will sell you just the y
That or check out his kit. It is very nice.

NW are great systems just more than I can spend right now.

Hi Ralph, Save up and buy the Needswings DCAI system. It's worth it not only because it's a quality and complete system but because the grin factor it provides is worth the effort and expense!

I agree the quality of Rob's CAI system is top notch, having one myself. If I understand what you are looking for you could use 3.5 >3" silicone couplers. You'll be making some work for yourself. Part of what Rob provides is the experience and testing of his products. For couplers I have used Verocious motorsports.

If you mean the piece that attaches to the throttle body you will not likely find anything that has curves to direct the incoming air but a "T" with the air hitting itself right before the TB, not really a good thing. I know as I looked for something when I got my car and did not want to spend the money on the NW system but then I went with it and am pleased I did.

ATX SRT-6 those look good, hard plastic though? If hard then some soft couplers may be needed. If Rob will sell the silicone Y from his CAI I would go with that. Remember also there is not a lot of room between the TB and the firewall. On my SLK32 Rob's Y is almost kissing the firewall.

Re: Y Pipe for intake

Yep, they're ABS plastic good up to 180F I believe.
Here's a T for 8 bucks at Wally World
MUELLER INDUSTRIES 03405

These fittings would require gluing a short piece of straight pipe in each inlet so you could clamp a silicone coupler to it. The OD of 3' ABS is 3.5" so you would need to use a 3" to 3.5" reducer to attached to the TB maybe?

Good luck getting it to fit. The NW one is silicone for a reason....

If you can squish the 3.5" into an oval....without cracking....

Re: Y Pipe for intake

They're just some potential fittings that I've found looking for a inexpensive solution to the Y or T issue. I might buy the ABS fittings and see what I can get to work using some silicone couplers from here Silicone Hose - Bends, Couplers, Reducers, Fittings and Reducing Bends

Re: Y Pipe for intake

This will not fit:NO WAY! Rob's DCAI is so well designed, beautiful fit and finish. A T instead of the "Y" would seem to interrupt the nice flow of the air and crash each side to the other IMHO.

Re: Y Pipe for intake

They all just suggestions really. As far as a T vs a Y pipe, the stock one is a T as is the intake for the SL55 setup and that supposedly works as well as the Needswings setup. Remember the air is being drawn into the intake, not pumped.

I did find these HDPE 3" Tee's that could be cut down to fit.
Butt Fusion Tee 3" IPS, DR17 - Hdpe Supply
http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server12...50.350.png?c=2

The OD on that Tee is 3 1/2". And yes, "Butt Fusion" does sound painful.

It could be cut down on each end leaving 1/2 - 3/4" to clamp a silicone coupler or elbow etc. to it. Or it might work just fine as is.
On the center leg that could be cut flush to the 4" OD and a 4" to 3 1/2" reducer could be used to attach it to the TB. That would make the overall depth about 4 1/2 to 4 3/4".

http://www.verociousmotorsports.com/vmsred4a_red_v1.jpg

Which should fit within the space between the firewall and TB. I haven't pulled the intake off of mine yet to measure the TB OD. It roughly measures close to 3 1/2"

These are all just ideas I'm looking at. Will it work? Only one way to find out.
