Crossfire won't start
 

First off Good Morning to all,


So here's what I have, yesterday after returning from work I noticed my key fob would no longer lock/unlock my crossfire. So I figured eh maybe the batteries are dead. This morning I replaced the batteries and even tried reprogramming my fob since it was dead all night and nothing. When I try to start the car I get a small jolt of electricity going through the radio and dash but it stops as soon as it starts. Also when I try to start the car it doesn't turnover or crank at all, there's a bird like chime sound coming for the front of the vehicle. I keep reading these post about a "skreem" and replacing the "PCM" with it but they are all over the place. It seems that only the stealership can maybe fix this from what I've read and that is something I avoid at all cost. Please someone help me with this. Thank you in advance.

The battery I have is maybe 2 months old and I just tightened and cleaned the connections after some other work so I don't think that's it. If the battery was dead wouldn't it at least try to crank but not turnover? I mean wouldn't the low battery warning light show prior ? I'm getting absolutely nothing from the car. That also doesn't explain the whistling chime coming from the front. Thank you though.

I think your explanation of your troubles could be more precise, getting rid of phrases like 'stops before it starts', 'whistling chime' etc. Just list the symptoms simply and skip additional facts.
I'm not sure if you were driving the car prior to finding the fob did not work or the car had been sitting for some time?

Ok I understand, I drove the car all yesterday and once I arrived home from work after I turned the car off and on my way in I noticed the fob wouldn't' unlock or lock the doors. There were no other issues at that point, I did not try to start it up again until this morning after purchasing batteries for the fob. When I tried to start it the radio turned on and off in less than 2 seconds and that's all that happened internally. I got nothing from the engine and the repeating chime that seemed to be coming from the front of the dash.

Did you have the car door open when the chime was going? It will do that on all of these cars. It reminds you that the key is still in the ignition, it will normally stop when you close the door.
I suspect that your RCM has a poor soldered connection. Look up the 'Mystery no start' thread. If it is it is an easy fix, you may find it suddenly decides to start sometimes.

A repeating chime could be an indication of lights left on ,key in the ignition (not that ,they were in your hand). Could you have turned the lights to far left, leaving one side of the parking lights on? Have you tried ,jumping the car off, with the ground on the body, engine or frame? Also follow up on 180's suggestion of ,Mystery no start.

Thanks everybody but I did figure it out. As the early comments stated it was the battery and a bad connection/corrosion. I've had a lot of problems lately they've been pretty small and I've been able to fix them myself but I'm a bit paranoid so I thought it was something bigger. The chime still don't know and I aware of the sound when the lights are left on or the key in the ignition. Thanks again.

:) Glad to hear its back on the road! I try to do the simple things first, they are mostly free and it helps me become more familiar with the layout. From personal experience, sometimes it is RIGHT in front of you but you pass over it so many times. Yeah, been there done that. :)

I also just swapped out my crankshaft position sensor. The most nerve wrecking thing I've done so far.

Well it actually was gone bad but it just stopped giving me problems for awhile so I put it aside until I got all the tools I needed. Yes it's Bosch btw I read up on everything before I go to work because I know I'm not expert. Thanks though

Did you remove the metal guard ?
I know it's extra work, but it sure does make the job easier.
Last time I did a CPS, I caught my self wondering WHY the German engineers decided to put the hold down bolt toward the inside, instead of toward the outside where it would be MUCH easier to get to.

No I left the heat shield I didn't feel like struggling with 3 screws lol. I also dropped the screw within the heat shield after about 1.5 hrs of trying to find an angle to unscrew it. Had to go buy a magnet.

I have just looked at the CPS on my car and can see that it is different from the NA I had before. It is much more difficult on the SRT, on the NA it was in plain site, here it is nearly impossible to get to.:(
