Crossfire fan, considering an SRT-6
Hi All,
I wanted to buy a Crossfire about 5 years ago in the UK but never found a good one within my budget. Well now I've moved to the US and I've decided to scratch the itch and treat myself to a nice one next year. I've driven a standard one and really liked it, but given their rarity I'm considering buying an SRT-6. Therefore I would appreciate regular posters opinions of the pros and cons of this variant over the standard. I know the former commands a higher premium but as I plan to keep it long term that doesn't bother me as much if it worth it.

I spend alot of seat time in mine and wanted the sapphire silver blue (ssb) 6 speed coupe, so didn't get a srt since they are automatic only, wish I had the extra 50% hp the srt has, just hit 130,600 miles.
There are many here that can help you in your search.
If you find one 6 hrs from your house, there could be someone close that could take a look for you to have less chance for wasting a trip.

Thanks for the reply Speedy. Like I say having just moved here I am in no rush to get one this minute as I need to settle first but I'm hoping to find the right one by next summer. Automatic doesn't bother me so it doesnt rule out the SRT.
At present I am in the Pacific North West (WA), but it looks like work is going to take me to the South East (TN/SC area).

I'll just make this simple for you.
Pro's - Its better than a regular xf in every category.
Con's - It's not available in manual.
I think your only problem will be finding one in the same state you live for sale as srt-6's are rare.

Both versions are great and they are hard to beat for the value. I have the SRT 6 and it has been a joy to own and drive. The car gives you a great platform to start with and you can get substantially more power with modding. It is rare, so you do not see one everyday and everywhere you go, which sounds like something you are looking for. Good luck with the search.

I like my 04 ssb 6 spd.
the handling is great just on a N/A, the srt is alittle better but it has bugger sway bars, just with the na you can take the 25 mph interstate horseshoe on ramps at over 50 mph and be at speed when time to merge.
Mine has treated me good and I get compliments all the time about it.
Awhile back I drive over the Shawnee town bridge across the Ohio river on southern illinois and ran into a police check point had 3 cops to busy asking me questions about my car they didn't notice that I didn't have my seat belt on.

As a Brit, you could probably appreciate the fact that my roadster let me return to the days of owning my TR6, but with a heck of a lot more reliability. Therefore the MT6 and the convertible were the factors in buying it new. The realization of the power and rarity of the SRT6 drove me to pick up it's twin, albeit a coupe, three years later. I did not have the patience or pocketbook to find a matching SRT6 roadster, although I have come across a couple nice coupes since then (owning one is enough).
The point I am long windedly trying to make is that if you want a stick and wind in your hair, roadsters are available and reasonably priced. If you don't care about shifting, the SRT6 is a blast - even stock it is fast and sounds great. But finding an SRT6 roadster now is almost impossible.

I sold an MGB GT before moving out here so I get where you are coming from. I hope to have another one someday but right now for what you pay for one, I'd prefer a Crossfire.
Thanks for the advice, however I've never been a huge convertible fan and especially with the Crossfire I think the Coupe looks a lot nicer than the roadster. I've seen a few SRT6 Coupe's around including a gorgeous 20,000 mile example in AZ so when the time comes for me to buy one hopefully there will be one available, if not I'll have 'make do' with a NA Coupe for a bit
