lower iat mod

6 Attachment(s)
just installed 4 puller fans on the intercooler, for testing purposes. it lowers my iat 20 degrees farenheit during idling and stop and go traffic, Prevents and delays heatsoak and runs way better . it should work on c32 slk32 srt6 and maybe e55 depending on size of their intercoolers

looks good but that is the heat exchanger . the intercooler is under the supercharger my Iat's is 50 to 55 in the 9o* heat of today,,,killer chiller. jim

thats right ,and nothing better than killer chiller. but for a stock junkie like me and for 60 bucks in parts its good investement jeje

Great mod I was looking at the same thing since i have a aftermarket heat exchanger I was looking at 2 7 inch puller fans i only run about 20 degrees above ambient except waiting in the staging lanes Oh what size fans

Several years ago I did that with 4 fans also and decided that the change was not worthy of the effort. Thats when I made a bigger heat exchanger and then went to the aluminum radiator now known as the super cooler. The smallish heat exchanger does not allow the water to cool much as it has such a great rate of flow due to the small passages. Its location also is not making use of the engine fan to draw in more air.

Another thing that helps is with a split cooler design, using like 30% antifreeze and corrosion inhibitor allows better heat transfer. Antifreeze dilutes the waters ability to carry heat away. Enjoy, Woody

yes waiting staging lines will increase iat like crazy until the exchanger gets some airflow. that whats happen to me but in standard stop and go traffic iat will climb to the moon jejej. but now the fans keep the airflow and mantains a much better iat even idling. these high cfm fans ( for their size) effectively lower my iat 20 degrees from the standard mb setup, and also lower iat way faster under acceleration and deceleration. and the best thing is everything look stock, no modification at all. and no maintanence, just used the exchanger pump signal to start and stop the fans and works flawlessly. they just use 2.4 amps between all fans, so the electrical system is not compromised for the amps for my stereo

What size are your fans

hi waldig, nice setup for your super cooler , I thought of super cooler first, but then decided to test with high cfm fans. didnt expect much maybe 6 or 8 degrees. but airflow is everything and it did lower 20 degrees below stock during idling or stop and go, to much red lights down here , and recovery is way faster with that kind of airflow, also tested the split system with improvement about 3 or 4 degrees , but decided to just plug the overflow from the exchanger pump and I got the same improvement as the split design. but I just keep dreaming about killer chiller iat's jejej

those are 140mm fans, with high cfm and waterproof, dont use lower cfm fans, if you wants some I can lookup for the part number

Please do I will install 2 since my system is isolated and my IATS are only about 20 degrees above ambient so this would help at the track

the fan number is RL4Z B1402512-3M you should match the exact number, ebay has them. also if you use the stock exchanger don't ever put the fan directly over the fins, use a 1/8 spacer. I used 1/8 thick aluminum bar sold on hardware stores. also if 4 fans are used you have to shave about 3mm from 1 fan so its fit like factory
