ok so i have a set of nitto 555r and rims being shipped to me. heres the issue. i have never run at a track before and never used dr's.
so you folks who are regulars at the track , i need some tips on how to launch with the nittos. i wont have more than a day or two before the races to get them on and try them out.
do i do a wet burnout? pass the pit and run dry? full throttle stomp or roll the power on?
i have the c3 pulley and intakes with modded airboxes. on my bridgestones its a smoke fest just about any way you launch.
how much air pressure should i try at the track for my first pass? i have read 15 lbs but not below 12 lbs
any and all info advice and tips will be tried! im super stoked!! cant wait to run!!

 

I run the Nittos on the Z car. They work best heated up but a NHRA burnout is not necessary. They will get greasy if you over do it. I run 20 to 25 lbs in them and cant tell much of a difference on a poorly prepped track, which is usually what you get on street car nights at most tracks. They will stick good enough to break something if the track is prepped well. You will be shocked how much better they are than even top street tires. My guess is on a 12 sec crossfire, you may not even be able to spin them off the line. I use a 245/45/17 on the Datsun with about 450ft/lb of torque. A wider tire on the crossfire with a bit less torque should provide plenty of stick for whatever you can throw at it. Good luck! edit; scratch the crossfire comment, I see you are in a 32 with the same 245 size I use. Just set it @ 25lbs and romp on it and see what happens. Adjust from there.

 

do a dry burnout...after driviing around pit. Lower psi, not sure if you want to go that low. If the guy next to you is running slicks and warming up in pit, I like to pause a bit before my own burn out so my tires aren't all cooled down by time he is done.

You'll stll need to feather, so I'd say sit at 1200-1500 rpm power brake, wait until last yellow and part thrittle until you hook, then hammer it. Practice a bit before you go there to get used to it. I used Nitto Drs a lot...DRs are just a bt better than reg performance radials..they do hook better tho. I'd get .1-.2 better 60' with them.

as for spinning off the line my 32 has so much low end torque i cant launch the street tires at all!
we need to run the 32's together! my buddy on here goodgenes79 has to work so i dont have a comparable car to run against. our mods are very close

 

You'll have to spot me the move with your mods and mine all stock unless you want me to bring the Datsun, My 32 is bone stock.

I've only drove an E55 at the track with Nitto dr's. They were around 20psi, and for them to hook up I drove around the water box and did an NHRA burnout dry, 8 secs. Lit them up really good and ran an 11.88 in AZ DA. Definitely wouldn't last doing that for every pass, so get your launch down and get them really sticky for one pass. Just hope the track has some prep to it.

 

I have run NT555's all season so here me out, bring them down to 25 and lower them no more than 22(these aren't racing slicks and have some sidewall stiffness) for your burnout if your track allows you to pull around the water due so but if you drive through them dont worry it makes almost no difference. I normally do a 5-8 second burnout this depends alot on ambient and track conditions but dont be afraid to heat these up they get alot stickier warm. when you find the sweet spot these DR have allows me to run 1.7 consistantly if i dont spin off the line. launch in between 1,200-1,500 and go full throttle as quickly as traction allows. On a well preped night at gateway i can stall up till 1,500 and mash the petal down and wow can you feel the g-forces . Hope that helps and you might have to adjust launches for you track's prep work start at 1,200 and work your way up.

 

Not much RPM choice in the SLK32 because of the automatic.

quicker240 no problem getting 1200 to 1500 rpm before launching the auto. any higher and im burnin rubber

 

I lower mine to about 20 lbs and heat them up for about 5 seconds after going through the water. Depending on the track conditions, if prepped well, I am able to mash it holding the rpms around 1200-1500 rpms. Good luck!

 

Actually, a lot of tracks dont mind passengers in cars at or over a certain ET. If your time doesn't require a helmet, you can likely have a passenger, however it is certainly up to the track, (and your wife). I know quite a few racers in the area anyway, so we will likely be able to properly secure a 3 minute baby sitter , but thats up to you. Hope the weather holds out, sure as been a ton of rain lately. And oh yea, unless I missed something, theres not a car here quicker than the old datsun. Current best ET 10.94@122mph.

sorry several cars are quicker than 10.9 but they are srt6s some people jist dont post times my best time in my srt6 is 11.0@126 I plan to break that soon and that was on a crappy track and being a grudge racer I keep times off the radar
