Cv joint removal
Cv joint removal
Need a little help here. I want to replace the boots and grease on my CV joints. Using the Service Manual, tried the soft faced hammer method; no go. Purchased a CV joint separating tool on Amazon; still no go! Anybody have any tips? The CV joints seem to function properly, that is, they are flexible and have an inch or so lateral movement. I didn't expect them to just fall apart but they shouldn't be this hard, should they?

The halfshafts are off the car and sitting on the bench. I'm in the middle of replacing the rear diff. I just want to freshen things up a bit.
Re: Cv joint removal
Just an update on separating the CV joints. Purchased a 2nd tool to aid in the process, ouch, but my CV joints were just a TAD too wide and the tool would only work on the threaded end. I designed my own tool and my friend the machinist is fixing me up as we speak. It will only cost about $15 in parts and I think it should work well. In a future post, I will include pictures and description.
