Anti Chip Tape - '06 SRT6 Roadster

The anti chip tape where the canopy closes and sits on rear has creased and become ugly.
I've found the tape (Part# 5104937AA) and the replacement cost (US $130+) is ridiculous for what it is.
Q. Has anyone removed this and gone without (and if so what consequences i.e scuffs)?
Q. Has anyone replaced this with an alternative?

I know member maxcichon removed his a couple of years ago, there has been no appreciable wear / chipping.
It actually looks better without the tape !

That's great to hear

. BB is getting a new dress next month ( Metallic Bright Black Cherry) and I had decided to just ditch the strip, as she is just a garage queen now.
